Hi,

About the red brake light material not appearing, did you try increasing the intensity ot the material?

Hi,

Well it's not juste the brake light in fact, it's all the red glass material wich compose the rear light of all the cars.
If I would like to make it brake I could insert a CoronaLight Material in the right spot, but that's not the problem here.

I'm looking for a solution where the defaults proxys clicked in Cosmos could be properly loaded into our scenes without tweaking the materials everytime we use one of them.
I presume that the it's a Corona Mat conversion because the preview is OK. I could change all the .VRMesh loaded in the scene, but I haven't Vray at the moment and it would be quite a long operation to open each of them and adapt the Glass Material.

Waiting for someone at Chaos to give us a feedback about it, thanks !

I also posted this problem report into the Chaos Cosmos forum.

Hi,

Is it normal that all the cars assets provided by "Fisherman3D" vendor doesn't have a red brake lights material when used with 3dsMax and Corona ?
The render isn't the same as the preview in Cosmos, everything else seems ok.

How is it possible without Vray installed to customize the material file where Cosmos picks his material ?

Thanks for your help.

Max file alone doesn't help with default material editor slots, for that part you also need to edit the Mat file which I always forget where it goes...

(Medit file in /materiallibraries?)

I think so, it's not in relation with the maxstart file... I searched in the /materallibraries in MyDocuments but there is nothing here. Maybe we should create some "startup" library there ? Or maybe it's more located in the AppData /Max2021 folder ?

Would love to have this solution.

Thanks,
Hervé

Yes, you need to have Vray installed in the 3ds Max in order for Converter to work. Demo version of Vray will do just fine.

Thanks, didn't know about that. Problem solved.

You can save maxstart.max file with Corona materials populated in compact material editor and everytime you'll start 3ds Max, it will load that startup scene.

Already tried that many times, but don't work. Standard Physical mats still appears on the startup...

Anyone as a suggestion why the standard Mats also don't be converted ?

[Max] I need help! / Corona material Converter - 3DSMax2021
« on: 2020-12-08, 11:35:42 »
Hi,

I've just updated to Max 2021 at the studio, but it seems that the Corona Converter doesn't do anything on the Conversion button click.

First of all, at the start of Max the material editor slots are full of Standard Physical Material. Before in Max 2018, I just had to click on conversion and all this slots were converted into CoronatMat standard slots, and that was great. now it doesn't do anything.

It's the same if I import some object with Forest who have a VrayMaterial. On the rendering it appeards as flat Red with an error message, and that's ok because it's Vray Material and I try to render with Corona, but before I just needed to click on version and all those materials were converted into corona mats and everything was ok. Does it need to have a version of Vray installed to correctly convert the VrayMat ?

Another quick help, does anyone now how to have already all material slots to be CoronaMat at the start of max ? That would be a great help.

Thanks a lot for your help.

The explanation is on this page:
https://coronarenderer.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/5000516180-known-bugs-and-limitations

The part that reads :
"Black highlights":
-Black reflection of sunlight may be visible on materials with glossiness lower than 1, if sunlight is passing through a Corona Light material with "emit light" option disabled

To avoid this in this case, you could just place the CoronaLight material in the Environment slot (or add it to the Reflections override) instead of using geometry to place the environment on.

Thanks TomG, yes it resolves the problem but when I place the CoronaLightMtl in the Env. slot there is no mapping and the environnement isn't enlighted, so it doesn't appears like a real sky...

Maybe someone has a better solution ?

[Max] Bug Reporting / Corona Sun + Sphere = Reflect bug ?
« on: 2018-02-15, 12:59:16 »
Hi there,

I'm currently having trouble with some basic reflections with Max 2018 + Corona 1.7 :

I use a sphere with a CoronaLightMtl and an environnement bitmap in the textmap for the reflect of my scene, and a simple CoronaSun to enlight all of this.
I placed a simple sphere with a glossy material to test show the problem : in the reflects the sun is dark and in a global scene it makes dark areas in glossy materials.

test_render" border="0

See attached jpgs to see details of mats and scene.

Has anyone a solution for this ?

Thanks a lot,

Herve

Same problem here, I should open my 3D trees in an other max

So you are using custom xref objects to scatter? Because Forest standard libraries do not xref anymore by default since a few versions (objects get allways copied to forest_templates layer). Well in this case it's in fact as cumbersome as you described.

Good Luck

Yes I use Custom library where I store Archmodels for example. But thanks for your precision, I didn't knew that thing with the layers and it could be useful for me in my workflow.
I don't really use layer in MAX for the moment (I know shame on me !)

Hi,

Same problem here with Corona 1.7 and MAX2018, when i start the IR the forest object disappear in the viewport, that's quite annoying... No solutions at this time ?

Thanks a lot.

Sounds like a case for the RaySwitch material - create a RaySwitchMtl, add a CoronaMtl into the Global Illumination slot, and leave the rest blank, and apply the RaySwitchMtl to your trees. They will then affect GI (e.g. cast shadows, bounce light) but be invisible directly. You could make the CoronaMtl pure black if you didn't want them bouncing light.

Thanks for your help, but doesn't work when I apply the RayswitchMtl on the Forest. It should be applied on the scattered object itself, but it's a Forest Library so the scattered object isn't in the scene... And I would find a better solution than open the 3D object, apply the RaySwitchMtl, save it, reopen the global scene, scatter the new object...

Quote
Corona can do the rayswitching internally, so no twiddle with materials is needed:

- find the objects you are scattering (not the ForestObject itself)
- select object properties
- untick "visible to camera"

Same for render pass selections where you have to select the instanced objects. This behaviour is discussed frequently and may change in future.

Same problem here, I should open my 3D trees in an other max, untick "visible to the camera", then reopen the scene... That''s not as fast as I did with Vray.

But thanks for your help, this two method can be solution for the moment...

Can you try to delete this file? "C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\2018 - 64bit\ENU\en-US\plugcfg\CoronaRendererMenus.ini"
That should reset the quad menu state and "reinstall" it (I hope).

I tried this, but doesn't worked :/

I didn't change my quad menu, but it seems that he is saved somewhere and your script can't overide this save. Maybe you can explain me how to add this Corona Converter option to my menu through the UI presets, and then I save it again somewhere ?

EDIT : It just worked after I restarted my PC ! Thanks for your help ;)

Hi,

First of all, thanks a lot for this really helpful script, without it I wouldn't have change for Corona...
I encounter a little problem since I upgraded to Max 2018 : I loaded all my UI stuff, buttons and shortcuts wich I didn't really understand how it works because it always creates bugs with the new version of Max... But now when I hit the right click, the Corona Converter line doesn't show in the list and I can't open it without manualy launching the script everytime.

Can you please explain me how to resolve this problem ? So I can have it in my right click menu everytime I open Max...

Thanks a lot for your help.

Hi,

I would like to report something who doesn't seem to work for me, maybe it's the same for some of you :

I'm used to render scenes with Vray with Forest objects (trees) as non-visible for the camera (right click -> Object properties -> "Visible for the camera" UNCHECKED)
In sort of render just the shadows of my trees in my picture, but witouth the 3D trees... Let me know if you don't understand my case.

This is not working with Corona, and either not in the Interactive Mode, the Forest trees are still visible in the frame.

I just downloaded Corona 1.8 and it's the same.

Can someone check if it's also the same problem ?
Maybe someone have a solution to get around this and to have to results wanted ?

Thanks a lot for your help, and sorry if the subject was already treated.
