Fair point. I will keep that in mind in the future, thank you for the suggestion :-)

It's true, it's way easier to do A, that's also why I went with it. I was hoping someone on this forum would have experience with it, because it almost seems like A makes no difference compared to using no light portals.

Hello Forum

I have a question regarding Corona Light Portals.

I experienced fairly long render times in this particular scene, so I wanted to decrease render time. Obviously one solution was to add light portals to every window. As you can see in my scene the windows are divided into several parts and is not just one big opening as we see with many demonstrations of light portals in effect. (On the Corona Freshdesk site for example.)

So my question is; how would you set up the portals to work effectively? Because I don't seem to get a lot of benefit from using them. My setup is I use one portal for every opening. Would it be better if I made a light portal for every single small divided part of the window, or should one light portal for the entire opening be enough?

Also see my "beautiful" illustration to better understand the issue.

Awesome stuff! How did you model the overhang in picture 1? Did you use sweep profiles or is it just bump and displacement?

This seems to have worked!

Thank you very much for your input, will keep the solution in mind for future reference :)

What does the wireframe of that piece of geometry look like?

Looks like this:

As I said, not ideal, but it shouldn't result in weird geometry like that when using DR... right?

Hello Guys

I usually use distributed rendering with all my renders and have almost no issues, but on this particular render I had a specific object that behaved very weirdly.

It is a counter for a shop that has been through multiple revisions, so the geometry is definitely not ideal in terms of polygons and mesh.

I have no visual issues whatsoever when rendering on my local pc, but when I use Distributed rendering (or Rebus Farm), the geometry goes all over the place and ruins the entire render...

As I said it's only that single object (the counter) which is a problem, and so I don't think it is an issue with camera placement and the two machines not being synced up.

Any help is very much appreciated!

Here are the renders in question (and the renders with no issues that was rendered locally):

Hey 88qba88,

Thank you for the input!

The apartment itself exists in real life and is an attempt to recreate that as realistically as possible, of course with changes to furniture and minor details. So for example the floor material is the same as the walls, because that's how the place was built. Concerning the wall material: I'm overall happy with it but I agree that it could be better and has some surface problems, even though it is intended to be a very rough element in the scene.
The tree outside is actually a model, you just don't see the geometry (only the shadow) because of the camera angle... I thought it added a nice touch of realism.
The Nighttime version: Lighting on the floor was intented to be a hint of moonlight (using corona sun), perhabs i went a bit overboard with it. It should be said that these 'mood' changes are made in post, in Corona LightMix and Photoshop respectively.
I do have some experience with LUT's, however i prefer to control the various sliders myself to get a more precise look.
I was very conflicted on wether or not i should use DOF in this scene. I had a plant in front of the camera for a while, but ended up cutting it for a cleaner look. Agree that it can be overused...

Thanks for the feedback will keep it in mind!

Hello Forum!

This is a visualization project I have done for my portfolio and it - in part - secured my apprencticeship in a proffesional setting. I have been working with 3D-visualization for a little over a year.
This project was finished in just under a month.

The scene itself is included with 3 different 'moods' (time of day) and 2 camera angles.

Constructive criticism is very welcome!
