As you are in C4D - Id strongly suggest that you look at using cinemas built-in terrain shader.
It is made specifically for this purpose, and you can get some very nice results by blending based on altitude, slope angle etc (use it as the mask in a layer shader)

Err - yeah, but they're useful for my user-case scenarios though. Not everyone's work is the same.

you could also cheat the IOR of the water to a lower amount to make is less dominant.
In any case the ''air'' should not be at the top of the bottle if the bottle is lying down. Removing that may make the difference between filled and empty less obvious too

Just a general comment - i think it looks wrong from the get go because there is a glossiness map in the roughness slot or something. The it looks like its inverted so the base wood is wrong before adding any scrapes

I've been working on a bottle project, where I had set up the glassware to use decals for the embossing (only effect displacement). I thought it as working reallly well and giving me lots of control, until i realised that if the decal is not appllied the refraction looks completely different!

Decal with bump instead of displacement it still wrong. But UV mapping and applying displacement via the material  works as expected - so it seems to be a decal issue.

Sometimes you hardly notice, but sometimes it is VERY different. It seems to be buggering up the IOR value of either the glass or somehow the volumetric liquid.

I can't share the real files so there's a simple scene attached below.

Unfortunately this means deacals cannot be used on transparent materials properly.

OK - in the end this was fixed after an hour or so. (Even one lost hour can be problematic when working against deadlines of course).
Would prefer a cleaner way of contacting the help in this sort of scenario TBH. Ai buddies and generalised waiting times are not the sort of things that calm down panicky clients.

[C4D] I need help! / NO LICENCE AVAILABLE!

Corona is not activating despite there clearly being a licence free on the licence server.
Corona is updated as is the licence server. No help.
Have submitted a Help centre ticket which says: "'Please note: We are currently experiencing high ticket volume, which may result in longer response times than usual—currently 3-4 days. Our team is working diligently to get to your ticket as quickly as possible.'

WTF! I have deadlines today!

Nice! Hadn't thought about separate beauty passes

I ave some shots that really need denoising in some areas but have other fine detail that is lost if I denoise. So id like to render once, denoise a copy and then comp it with the un-denoised version. Is this possible? From CXR perhaps?

10
Dont worry - something wierd with the file I think. Seems OK on a clean version

11
Probably the bump channel issue that is around since forever ?

No bumo - only displacement. BUT it is a layered noise which was part of the bump issue if I remember correctly?

12
Which version of Corona and C4D is this?
It's still weird that you are getting different results in the PV and IR. Could you share the scene?

Ah nevermind - fixed it.
for reference the problem seemes to be that the glass panel was made from a plane inside C4Ds 'Thicken' object.
Once I make it from standard geommetry it works fine.

14
PS. I remade the glass panel in physical material - same problem. Effect is also correct in IRR. Just disappears in final render.

[C4D] I need help! / Missing refraction distortion - BUG?
« on: 2025-02-14, 10:49:20 »
Hi - I have a fairly niche setup, where I'm placing a piece of distorted glass in front of the camera to deliberately cause ripples and distortions in the scene.

This was working fine, and is still working in the interactive viewport, but when I come to render properly the effect disappears.

Any ideas?? What is going on or if it's a bug?

(The glass panel is a legacy material, no reflection, distortion contolled by noise).
