in the past, as far as i know you could unsubscribe from corona on the last day.
with chaos the unsubscribe button only works the first half of the month,
then unsubscribing is not possible anymore and after 2 weeks the subscription gets renewed
if you forget to unsubscribe in the following 2 weeks the story repeats.

2
is it correct that half of the time of a monthly subscription you're blocked from unsubscribing?

on chaos group it says :
" Need to make changes? You can do so 30 days before renewal for yearly plans, and 14 days for monthly ones. "

so for a monthly plan you can only unsubscribe in the first half of the period and after that it is not possible anymore?

so you need to think of it and not miss the window for unsubscribing, otherwise you get charged another month?

[C4D] Bug Reporting / Vertex Normals Issue [Bug?]
« on: 2024-10-09, 07:25:11 »
Hi,
I encountered an issue that i never had before and i'm not sure if it is Corona related.
I'm importing Steps from Solidworks with all geometry then having Normal Tags.
Now in Corona i get some meshes that render completely wrong!

See attached pictures :
#1 Ceiling Panel rendering wrong
#2 Ceiling Panel rendering correctly after having the Normal fixed by the old "VertexNormalTool" Plugin
Mesh Object (original / fixed) attached

It would be nice if it could be checked what is the issue here.
Geometry? Normals? Lights?

best, index

[C4D] Bug Reporting / Re: Corona Sun Direction [Bug]
« on: 2024-09-27, 06:38:36 »
the sun controls/changes its own rotation and there seems to be a bug when it is nested in a hierarchy.
it would be nice to have a switch to turn this off and have it work like a regular light

[C4D] Bug Reporting / Corona Sun Direction [Bug]
« on: 2024-09-21, 08:56:44 »
1) Add a Corona Sun "Sun1" with Rotation 120 ° and Angle 35
2) Add a null with Rotation H = 45
3) Copy Sun1 as child under null, name it "Sun2"
4) change the Sun2 Rotation 75 ° in the Attribute Manager (in the Rotation and Direction section)

Both Suns now have the same Z Vector, but.... the sunlights come from different directions !

Also the GUI display is wrong.. the "Star" is at the opposite end of the Z vector,
but the white sun angle indicator has a different rotation.

When u change the "Rotation" back to 120 from 75 you dont get back the previous state,
both the direction and the Z Vector change but do not match as before.

Second Issue:
if you now change the rotation of the null, the sunlight direction of Sun2 does not change.

this is all highly confusing as it contradicts core concepts of c4d ...
the sun seems to tamper with its rotation and doesn't use its Z direction (as any other light in c4d)

i could understand if the "Rotation" and "Angle" would be global/absolute Values, but they aren't

best, index

ps.
sometimes it makes sense to have different lightning setups grouped under a null
there might be a composition with a sun and other lights and scene elements
just rotating the null to adjust the direction doesn't work atm.

pps.
btw ... how are rotations of sun and sky connected ?
does it matter if the sun and sky object have different rot.H values ?

i think it is mainly about the water.
the imperfect cgi water is almost flat and reflects (at this angle) the horizon.
while in reality you have waves and the far way reflection will reflect with much smaller angles the center of the sky
this not easy to solve, displacing the sea is not very efficient.

If you want to request something, please use the dedicated ''Feature request'' thread.

where is the dedicated ''Feature request'' thread ?

and.. mid 2021 it was said it is in the works,
but with "use the dedicated 'Feature request' thread" it doesn't look like ACES is coming in v8.

8
well... if solidangle can do it...

9
will there be support for ACES in Corona 8?

[C4D] General Discussion / Re: Switch from Arnold to Corona?
« on: 2021-05-24, 14:29:48 »
well, i tested arnold a bit the last 2 weeks and i had loads! of crashes, even with simplest scenes.
some stuff in arnold is weird and super user unfriendly. on the newest arnold i wasnt able to have a glass window letting light pass. needs a comptag.
on the other hand corona is the only renderer who thinks it is not important to have a manual.  forum support could be better, too
what kills arnold for me is that interiors are rendering way too slow. not sure if i'm doing something wrong, but my guess is 3-4x the rendertime of corona or vray
another bummer is that arnold doesnt use real world values for lights/cameras. you have to "feel" it
i gave up on arnold with the feeling that in parts it is years ahead and in parts years behind.

ok, i did some tests... and then even more tests....

sorry, this is probably scene and not corona related !

this is not a slow system... its a 3970x + 128gb + nvme
also these slow viewport changes do not happen with other renderers
the scene is not particularly large.. it is 350mb
maybe this is caused by scripting tags, i'll do a test on this later today.

i'm no expert here and I didnt even watch these videos now.
i just saw how ACES works on arnold and i assume they know what they're doing.

there you need to "import" textures (means correctly set them up in the bitmap shader)
normally as sRGB Texture, HDRIs as Linear of course, this is the same if you use the LWF.
the difference is that the result must get exported from ACEScg after rendering
on arnold you must use their VFB, you cant see the proper result in PV directly

after the export to sRGB the images look very natural out of the box
with LWF you need to post process on a guessing base to get yr final image
for me it looks like ACES gives you better pictures with less work

EDIT: Arnold has it, it is planned for Vray5 on C4D,
it would be nice to get an update from Corona what they think about it
