[C4D] General Discussion / Re: LWF - Once more with love
« on: 2019-02-11, 06:33:46 »
Just following up on this guys....

I've been running some tests recently and the ONLY way that i can get C4d & corona to behave the same as Max & Corona is to use the linear input color profile. I've used this setup for my last couple of projects, and I'm finding I'm getting more natural looking results, and the renders are quite a bit faster. The only downfall I can see to this is that any selected colours need a 0.4545 gamma adjustment, and selecting black colours can be tedious as they are squashed between 0-5.

Am i missing something?

Cheers,
Brad

Hi Guys,

Great work for getting this to where it is. I've tested it on a small studio setup with some furniture and only a few materials. It works really well and quite smooth on my Ryzen 1700x. My comments/bugs report:

- initially textures were not showing in viewport.. so i adjusted the viewport preview size and they became visible again, however the viewport is not responding to setting a higher resolution of preview size.
- in IR, instances don't seem to be textured properly. when i untick render instance in the properties, the textures appear as they should.
- lighting changes slightly between IR and normal render when using corona lights (area lights in this case). HDRI lighting, when used by itself, is consistent for both though.
- any non-corona lights in the scene appear in the IR, whether or not they are turned on or off.
- when i add a round edges shader to bump channel, it comes up with a texture error icon....

So far I'm loving it. It will completely change the way I texture and light a scene! Thankyou!

Thats all for now. I will do further testing over the weekend.

Cheers,
Brad

OK cool.

Thanks Nikola

Hi Devs,

Just wanting to ask what operating system you are using on your development machines? I'm still having big issues with lots of crashes when multipass is enabled (on big scenes). There is no mention of these issues for most people and i would imagine if you were getting them, you would have fixed the issue by now.... so I'm figuring that maybe my older operating system (windows 7) may be the problem? is this likely?

I have 3 machines all running windows 7 ultimate, and the issue is consistent between them.

Brad

[C4D] General Discussion / Re: Zoom to Fit Image in VFB

Yeah i second this. It would be great to zoom to fit at all resolutions.

I keep getting Corona crashes straight after i adjust the Multipass settings. Like if i go in and add some lightmix passes, or zdepth, or Material ID, or whatever..... during the scene parsing stage, Corona crashes and Cinema shuts down. Is this a common bug? It seems to be happening across my 3 machines.

Cheers,
Brad
Hi Brad,

I can't reproduce the problem. Can you please test it in the 2017-08-29 (today's) daily build? Thank you.

Nikola

No problems Nikola. I will try the latest daily and report back.

Regarding the sluggish material viewport - I'm not sure if this has been mentioned around here, but a while back i read somewhere a tip to disable the windows automatic updates service, and that fixed the problem for me. I'm on Windows 7 for all my machines... not sure if it helps in Win 8 or 10 though.

Cheers,
Brad

[C4D] Resolved Bugs / Re: VFB issue with Forester plugin
« on: 2017-08-14, 23:02:33 »
Hi Rhodesy, Thanks for your answer. I just tried it, and it works.... So its a step forward. I guess I'll have to tweak my workflow a little to start in the PV instead of the VFB.

Thanks again for your help!

Brad

[C4D] Resolved Bugs / Re: VFB issue with Forester plugin
« on: 2017-08-13, 03:27:01 »
This issue has still not been addressed. Forester is an amazingly flexible plugin which i use for pretty much all of my distant trees, however it is difficult to work with in Corona because it only renders the 'viewport levels' setting, rather than the 'render levels' setting. Keeping all the trees at viewport levels is not possible as it slows the viewport dramatically, which means i have to display them all as the line box view... which makes initial placement and adjustments difficult.

Is it possible to fix this?

Cheers,
Brad

Yep. I'm Windows 7 Ultimate with C4D R18 (latest update)... it happens most often with Lightmix updates to multipass. It seems as if corona has to crash once before it can go forward after making an update. Once i crash and restart c4d and reload the scene it behave as normal until i need to add more passes.

[C4D] General Discussion / Re: C4D R18 Corona Alpha Channel
« on: 2017-07-31, 02:23:19 »
Try setting the alpha channel map to linear color profile rather than embedded or sRGB. I noticed this problem a while ago and setting all alpha maps to linear worked for me.

Let me know how you go!

[C4D] Resolved Bugs / shader 2d preview is sloooww
« on: 2017-05-17, 23:30:25 »
In R18, when i'm working on a shader, and layering a number of textures, i usually right click on the 2D preview of the layered shader and 'open window' so i can get a better view of the resulting texture. In R18, this window refreshes so slowly, and is pretty much unusable. In R17, it would take a few seconds to refresh..... I'm not sure if this is a C4d thing or something you guys at Corona central can control.

Brad

[C4D] Resolved Bugs / Re: material opacity in viewport
« on: 2017-05-17, 23:28:24 »
Hi Houska,

I've just modified the thread down to the first issue. I'll repost the second one. As for the variation shader, it works as it should.... i just didn't know how to use it and was going about it the wrong way... so I've removed that.

[C4D] Resolved Bugs / material opacity in viewport
« on: 2017-05-17, 13:02:41 »
Hi Guys,

Just a small annoyance i have discovered since switching to R18 studio.

This may well be a c4d bug rather than corona, so I'm not sure if this is something you can fix. In R17, i can place a map in opacity slot and a map in diffuse slot, then the viewport would show the opacity of the material on the plane that it was applied to (for doing opacity map trees for shadowing in arch-viz). Since moving to R18, I've noticed that the opacity of a material isn't shown in the viewport. Not a huge issue, but something that bugs me.

Cheers,
Brad

[C4D] Resolved Bugs / Re: VFB issue with Forester plugin
« on: 2016-12-27, 12:06:49 »
Just an update. It appears that Corona just renders the viewport levels and not the render levels when using the Forester plugin. Doesn't matter which render viewer you are using.

This can be a bit of a pain, as it puts unnecessary stress on the viewport when working with lots of trees.

Cheers,
Brad.
