just see this comparison between renderers (Vray-Corona-hydra-Ref. image) => http://www.raytracing.ru/caustics.html
Hydra Renderer is tightly integrated in 3D Studio Max. Hydra supports the following basic functionality of 3D Studio Max with respect to imaging:
Built-in standard materials (Standard)
Own materials render (hydraMaterial), allowing to achieve high realism in simulation of metal and glass
Partial support VRayMaterial
All types of standard sources
Partial support for photometric sources:
Form as a point source, sphere, rectangle, and a drive
Standard distribution of intensity - uniform, diffuse and floodlighting
Source type 'Heavenly Portal' (mr Sky Portal), significantly increases the efficiency of the calculation of daylight in rooms with windows.
Support for standard cameras and image output to the screen rendering 3D Studio Max
All types of textures including Bump, NormalBump, Opacity and procedural textures of any complexity
