[Max] I need help! / Re: Arranging Lights in Lightmix
« on: 2025-05-06, 10:50:53 »
Yes you can rearrange the list without losing values, though it's a slightly fiddly work-around.

Just delete the render element (or multiple) and then Ctrl+Z and it will bring it back at the end of the list with name and values intact (works in Max2025).

In this way you can sort of shuffle them into order.

This looks great - it would 100% be useful for us.

Would be great really to have this functionality in the Corona cameras natively, along with per camera resolution.

It's difficult to tell sometimes from the material editor as there is some UI boarder and gap between swatches, but often it's just a couple of the bitmaps most at fault and throwing in a color correct in between to knock it down does the trick.

Easy way to trouble shoot is to change the Multi tex frequency to 0 for suspected bitmaps whilst Interactive rendering.

I believe default windows 10/11 photoviewer app is not colour-managed and will display incorrectly.

What is the comparison when you open in Photoshop?

[Max] I need help! / Re: LED Light
« on: 2024-07-16, 11:55:50 »
Hi,

This may not be the optimal way, but how I do it:

Model the cove recess detail nicely (the part where the led is concealed) so that the light will bounce evenly.

Draw the path of the LED strip as a spline + sweep modifier (bar section) + edit poly (ring select edges to delete all faces bar the 1 side that will be the LED strip)

Apply Corona Light Mtl.

This way you can adjust the sweep width (i.e. led strip) offset and angle easily, in combination with Light material directionality and intensity. It's usually a balance of all of these.

OSL might do what you're after, maybe?

General CG Discussion / Soft furnishings, cushions etc.
« on: 2023-01-05, 14:16:49 »
I'd really like to know how people are adding cushions and other soft-body items to their scenes.
I'm talking about realistically slumped and creased and conforming somewhat to the furniture so that they look natural.

Are there good models available somewhere?
I can only find poor quality or overly creased/ugly models that are difficult to reshape.

Are people modelling them from scratch?
I've tried doing a few things in tyFlow which is ok for some simple curtains, but the free versions excludes self-collisions for cloth so have found a bit limiting.

Any pointers would be much appreciated!

[Max] Daily Builds / Re: Corona Slicer Material playground!

Did you use include/exclude feature, or doesn't it work with hierarchies?
Ok, I completely overlooked the material excludes - works perfectly!

I just tried using this to recess some spotlights but I guess it still interprets the light as being inside geometry and doesn't work (inside parent geo and slicer object).
See image of ceiling slab, with intersecting cylinder+slicer mtl and coronalight.

Could this work somehow? Feels like it would be a pretty handy feature.

I'm happy to wait for incremental improvements to what has to be one of the most complicated parts of the engine.

+1 for the Corona teams patience with threads like this.

Cool. I like the Berndnaut Smilde vibe.

...and I've just stumbled across a work-around:
delete the selected render element and then ctrl+z and it'll pop up at list end.

good enough for me :)

[Max] Resolved Feature Requests / re-order added elements

A small thing but we often have lots of light mix elements, masks etc. and the list being quite unwieldy. Being able to re-organise them would be great.
