Cheers Serch, I'm glad you like it!

I'm away from my computer right now so can't show screengrabs, but will put something together when the project is a bit further along. I'll try describe as best I can now. It's all quite simple geometry, just 10m sections of road with just a slight bulge in the centre, then instanced and a single noise map applied over all instances to add some variation.

Most of the work is in the materials here. Multiple 10k px long textures with all the markings and varying levels of dirt all blended together with noise maps. I still need to add more variation and create some damaged sections, as the road is broken up into 10m sections I have a lot of control over where the damaged parts will go. On the edges I will also be scattering some tiny debris, where the old asphalt it crumbling a bit as well as dirt, dust and litter being blown off the road to the sides. This will all be geometry.

Post work was done in Photoshop using Arion FX and Camera Raw. I added some chromatic aberration and glare in Arion FX and did some tone mapping. I quite like using Camera Raw because I can save a variety of adjustments easily as a preset. There I adjusted the exposure and curves, added more contrast using clarity. I had initially planned to have this in colour, but as an experiment I converted to B&W and really liked it so kept that!

DOF is rendered. I think it's roughly a 100mm lens, F stop of 12 if I remember correctly, so DOF isn't over the top.

Not much to update really, did a bit of work on the road surface and the verge. Wheels and brakes of the car are improved, not that you can see in this render!

Haha well a studio lighting set up is just very controlled and deliberate lighting.. Think of Apple's product renders They use the lighting to accentuate the key features of the design, like that sharp edge in the Macbook example, and that slight curve in the lid.

Basically, you just want to get some nice highlights on things like the keys and edge of your laptop and a bit more contrast. Even if the idea is to have more of an everyday render of a laptop instead of a really slick studio render, it's still good to get some nice highlights in there.

Hi @matrix! I just replied in my thread, and now see you have your own WIP one. As I said there - mine is nothing special. It's actually a free model available on Model+Model. It's just a plane with the clock background which I gave some self illumination, and a glass geometry with basic thin glass material as there was no need for any refraction.

I think a big part of it will be getting a nice studio lighting set up to give some highlights to make your model "pop" as they say. Or if you want it in a more regular scene you could take a look at Maxime Roz. He has some really nice  interior HDRIs, both free and another very reasonably priced pack there. The quality of them is excellent, and you'll get some really nice lighting for your scene.

Hi JacopoGrosso!

Thanks for the comment on my work, I meant to reciprocate sooner. Your interior is really nice, my only comment is that the reflection in the mirror is a bit confusing, seems like the water level is higher than outside, and with that shallow and angle I'd maybe expect to see some sky in the mirror too. Maybe it's accurate, I just find it looks more like a small window than mirror! I'd maybe lower the contrast on the exterior image a little too.

For the exterior, I'd work a bit more detail into the building model itself. I doubt you'd have wood cladding going right down to the soil like that so maybe add in a plinth. The sky here doesn't really match the render, as the sun seems to be setting in that direction where as the scene appears to be lit from behind camera. Lighting wise it's a little flat and overexposed. Also, is that a hole at the back of the interior?

Good work though, a little more work on that exterior will go a long way. Hope my critique is helpful!

Really nice work as usual! Though I still think a great like yourself can still get some critique :)

The close up of the bust could use some improvement, the statue seems a bit low-res (maybe that's how it actually is, i dunno) and could probably use some sharpening up/detailing in Zbrush/Mudbox if it's going to be a real focal point. The material also seems a bit waxy. It kind of looks to me like a low resolution 3d print, if that makes sense?

The bases of the statues look like they have no material, again, this is pretty close to their real-life counterparts but they do seem to have a bit more texture, albeit very subtle.

Apart from that, everything looks great. Really nice texturing work as usual. Love the last 2 images especially.

Hey guys,

So as a little break from architectural work I wanted to do some car renders. I love classic Japanese sports cars and you don't see them rendered too much. There are much bigger plans for this but I had just finished the Toyo R888 tyres and I couldn't resist and doing a full studio render :) There was nothing to it, just one of the free HDRs provided by Maxime Roz, which are awesome by the way.

I don't have a huge amount of free time, so modeling a car from scratch wasn't going to be an option - I'd lose focus on the project and forget about it, so went to Squir.com and bought the one he has available there. It's great quality, but I knew going in it wasn't going to have the level of detail I wanted however I was probably going to modify it anyway to get more of that hakosuka look. Nothing too wild, just something akin to this or this

Things to do - Lower car a little. Bigger Flares. More detailed grille. More detailed badges. More detailed lights and indicators. More detailed, upgraded brakes. Nicer paint shaders. Build an highway underpass set. Dirty everything up a little. So....nothing too crazy!

Awesome, love Rocketbunny kits, and love that RX. Didn't realize the first post was an S15 & S14 til just now, was thinking the body looked familiar, but the front really threw me. What's that front conversion? Can't place it!

Nice work, but yeah hard to beat DOTPOTZATGPOSSA! :) Only thing that bothers me is that the ivy just looks scaled up. I'd think ivy that has grown to  ~1 metre thick would probably have much denser foliage, the "trunk" of the ivy probably having regular sized ivy growing on it. Just took a look now at DotPotZ and I think that's how he approached it, the big thick trunk that grabs the helicopter looks to be a 'rope' made of thick strands of ivy wrapped around each other, with patches of ivy leaves on it.

Technically nice aside from the two points mentioned by lacilaci.

Big thing for me is the view itself, I think you could get some really nice shots from this scene by working on a more interesting composition. Currently there's no particular focal point and your eye just wanders around the scene. A quick google search will bring up loads of articles about composition. If you do make some changes and provide more views then post them here again, it would be interesting to see the difference

Hey guys,

Kind of a follow on from my previous post. Another user liked the geometric wallpaper pattern in my render so I thought why not make up a few and I'll post them on Gumroad in a week or so. I worked more on the scene to have something more interesting than just a door and chair. Combination of models from model+model, 3dSky, and Dimensiva.

Sorry for the crappy watermark! Need to make some thing nicer.
