I get better results using corona lights - the corona sun seems to produce the effect seen in your image.

My $800USD HP Z620 arrived today. Looks really tidy - just a couple of scuff marks on the case. Anyway attached is my cinebench score.

I just ordered one of these. I have a bunch of extra ram and a quadro card to chuck in it when it arrives. I live in New Zealand and after a lot of research this is the cheapest option for me. I also looked at dual socket motherboards with the c602 architecture and geez they're expensive,
I guess I missed the boat when the E5-2670's started flooding the market and all the boards got snapped up. The ram is cheap too as it's ddr3 ecc which is no good for most computers :)

really nice. but i cant seem to achieve shadows like yours using that HDRI 1433 or basically any of peters hdri's. can you explain how to go about getting good shadows with just the hdri or did u add corona sunlight to it???

After much experimentation as Juraj recommends, I found adjusting the gamma of the HDRi will give sharper shadows and brighter light. I use C4D so I'm not sure about MAX but in C4D you add a filter to the HDRi and lower the gamma to between .4545 and .75.

Even gluten-free vegans must admit this looks pretty tasty

If the texture is a bitmap, remake it at a larger resolution.

You are the master! I really enjoyed your lighting setup video you posted - I've been waiting for something like that for a while. Although I find it strange to use such high values for highlight compression. Also the light multiplier of 250 is very high in C4D, is the light default multiplier in 3ds max 50 the same as in C4d?

I really like this - especially the vegetation. It's only the white painted fence which lets it down IMO, needs some grain or imperfection of some sort. But that's nit picking..

Work in Progress/Tests / Re: displacement is quite good
« on: 2016-05-15, 22:13:46 »
Nice work, isn't poliigon a great resource? I also have a problem with the displacement. It seems some other renderers use 50% grey as their '0' point where it seems corona uses black as it's '0' point? I could be wrong but it would mean having to adjust the displacement maps for each different texture

[C4D] General Discussion / Re: How to do backplates
« on: 2016-05-04, 22:00:55 »
Thanks for the link.

Neather turning off emit light nor the rayswitcher options work atm ;-(
Let's hope for the future ;-)

I use a light material with the emit light box turned off and it works great! just make sure your back plate is geometry and not a sky object

Such inspiring work! I can't wait to see how you tackled the lighting for this one

« on: 2016-04-27, 00:39:21 »
The question here is what you understand by "seamless".
Here is my attempt to recreate the first image. I just used a plan large enough to cover the whole view. :)
I can share the scene if you wish but it's nothing special.

Thanks for this - I would find it very useful to see how you have done this. Please attach c4d if possible :) Thanks!

I have been trying to get this look for ages using a curved background and have not succeeded :( we really need the shadow catcher to be implemented in the next release

I really like it, you have a good eye for detail, especially the lighting. What can you share about your lighting setup?

Really nice shot! Did you use corona sun and corona sky for illumination?
