I'm experiencing the same problem.. randomly 3ds max crashes with the compact material editor. I'm running corona 8 hf2

Thanks Tom, I will try with the current RC and see if there is any difference. I will also try to contact Rebus directly and ask them if they could install the RC version. Let me know if you find any other solutions or if there is any bug.

Hi Tom,

Just uploaded to the Dropbox link as the file is larger than 256mb.

Thanks
Ana

Oh one thing though, this was created and saved with Corona 3? Then tried to be rendered using Corona 2? That may well have an impact on things for sure. The scene would be handy still.

EDIT as an aside, I'd say it's probably not a good idea to use an unreleased build, even an RC, to create a project when you plan to render on a render farm, as the chances are the farm won't support it until it becomes an official final release.

Hi Tom,

Thanks for such a quick reply. Yes, scene was created with Corona 3 RC1 and now I need to have it working on Corona 2 because I intend to send it to RebusFarm. Where can I upload the scene?

[Max] I need help! / Corona skipping UHD calculation phase!
« on: 2018-11-07, 19:48:00 »
Hi guys,

We have been experiencing a very strange situation!

We are working on an animation and have been working with the daily builds (RC1 to be more specific). Earlier today when I was submitting some clips to Rebus farm I noticed that all renders were coming out black with a few very bright pixels.
I contacted their support and they said they run Corona 2.0 "vanila". So I installed Corona 2.0 right from the downloads page and open my scenes and try to render. The result was the same as the render farm, black frames with bright pixels.

I noticed that the render is skipping the UHD calculation phase. It is simply not doing it!

See Render1.jpg

I have set my UDH to be still frame / calculate from scratch etc..

See Render2.jpg

I've tried all the things I thought might be possible to do:
-Reset Corona renderer settings (changing the current engine to another one and then switch back to Corona)
-Try a new empty max file and merge my scene into it
-Full convert via de CoronaConverter script
-Try to open the file on another machine

Then I have reverted back to Corona 3 RC1 and it works like a charm! works just as it was before!

Any thoughts on what I can do? I need to render this animation with Corona 2 for Rebusfarm :(

Thanks
Ana

Hmm... even if scale of first version was completely off, i prefer mood, that those giant trees are creating. Nevertheless, i like such imagery very much. Would love to see more of these and less of scandinavian interiors please :]

Thank you Romullus!
I know... I really like the dramatic feeling the giant trees were creating. I guess I'll have to create a "miniature world" scene to try and bring that mood back :)

I see :- )

But here is how I believe that effect would be achieved more convincingly. It's size vs scale. By scaling the tree larger, it looks wrong, because suddenly its features don't appear properly sized. I.e, an 8m tall tree can't be scaled 300perc. to 24m tall tree.
Instead, you need to use 24m big tree which will have a lot more branches and the leaves and fir will stay correct size. Right now the features of the fir tree looks gigantic :- )

Such rule doesn't apply if the look would be more fairy tale. But the house has realistic proportions and detailing, so it's obvious it is real house for real people and thus the photorealistic, but incorrectly scaled tree provide wrong impression.

You would need to use this size of model:

Don't mind my feedback, the scene would be absolutely killer with proper trees. Everything else is excellent.

Thanks for the feedback... it was very helpful! I have updated the first post with the new images... let me know your thoughts.

Hi Juraj Talcik and pokoy

Thanks for analysing our images - I found your comments quite interesting and have decided to give you a bit of background.

The concept here is to try to portrait a very tiny hut in the woods, in the middle of nowhere. I wanted to make the house look almost like a doll's house or a shed... somewhere you use to spend the day and have a bit of time for yourself, away from everything. It is more like a place to camp and not to live in.
On my first drafts, I have made the trees much smaller (see attached), but it didn't give me the dramatic effect I was looking for, so I took creative license to make them much taller.

When I was building this scene, I took inspiration in the mood-board attached.

Let me know your thoughts :)

This is our latest exterior CGIs. We wanted to explore fog/landscape /CoronaScatter/Water and several different shaders. Let us know how to improve these images.

Exceptional lighting and compositions.

A few issues I noticed:
-You have some UV issues on your chair legs for your dining chairs.  The grain should run vertically rather than horizontal for the legs and back rest.
- Your couch material is too reflective, it is really apparent in the close up view with the pillows.
- the apple material looks kinda weird, they feel really flat to me
- Is the soffit for the balcony supposed to be brick? That seems exceptionally uncommon to me.
- the window frames and door look far too deep (especially if its supposed to be a swing door).

Hi mferster

First of all, thank you for taking the time to analyse our images.
You have addressed very important points and thanks to comments like yours we get to improve the quality of our work every day.

Below are a few comments based on your remarks:

'-You have some UV issues on your chair legs for your dining chairs.  The grain should run vertically rather than horizontal for the legs and back rest.'
Absolutely with you there! Although time restrictions sometimes lead us to overlook things, there is no excuse for a good UVW Mapping! :)

'- Your couch material is too reflective, it is really apparent in the close up view with the pillows.'
That's a good point from an artist point of view, however, due to client specifications for that specific job, and following the Grenfell Tower incident in London at the time, we were requested to ensure fabrics appearance would resemble a fire-resistant coating.

'- the apple material looks kinda weird, they feel really flat to me'
It looks quite ok on my screen. Could it be the depth of field effect?

'- Is the soffit for the balcony supposed to be brick? That seems exceptionally uncommon to me.'
I know! Although it is quite an unusual choice of material for the soffit, it is being built like that. The architecture practice that designed this building has taken a creative approach to bricklaying. London loves their bricks I suppose :)

'- the window frames and door look far too deep (especially if its supposed to be a swing door).'
Yes they do. I'm 100% with you on that! As we follow architects specifications, there was not much left for creative license in regards to contructing the frames. As those are bespoke frames, it might have been the case that the supplied drawings were not in final stages or they really meant to make them thick like that.

Once again, thanks for your remarks - it will help us to address similar issues in the future.

Great images, I like this sunny mood. What kind of lighting did you use?

Hi Za Mike, CoronaSun/Sky system was used in all the images, no need for anything else :)

Great set of images, real art!

Thank you d.sign, glad you like it.

Wow, there's dimension. #3&9 glass in foreground is : obscure?

Hi Noah, Thanks for your comments. Answering your question the glasses are clear on images 3 and 9, they look milk/frosted in due to the shallow DoF.
