[Max] I need help! / Re: Global volume MTL affecting sky
« on: 2015-06-23, 23:13:20 »
For some reason I can't get it to work, increasing distance dims the render, the background models are still always brigther than the sky.
How does one go about doing a plausible Rayleigh scattering atmosphere with the VolumeMTl? what values should I use? I saw no guide on how to do that.

Thanks for the reply guys! really appreciate :)

Do you have any idea on how much of a performance hit it would make?

PS : on the same scene I have kind of an issue, the scene parsing is 44s, with 20million polygons, (wich isn't insanely high) and using full 16gigs on my machine.
using 20 million poly for Onyx trees trough Csproxy then Csscatter, + some sparse hand-placed laubwerk plants, it's also a bit crashy, would you guys have some quicktips on memory management in that case? never had this problem with Arnold.

Hey guys, here's my problem: you can clearly see the sky is not affected by the volumetrics.
Is there a trick to force the global volume material into affecting the sky?

I hope it's possible O___o

Thanks a lot guys !
I hope to get a bit of free time to develop a really badass skin model, I often need quick faces with different lighting setups for my concept art work, so if I can spend a few days and make a good light rig that can output me 2K photoreal face renders in a matter of minute, that'd be suppa cool.
@spadestick Nice tip actually! I did exectly that in my newest image :)

Gallery / Corona for Environments: second try
« on: 2015-06-17, 22:02:22 »

Decided to have a bit of fun with the previous scene, replacing the Onyx trees by Laubwerks free kit, and of course, day for night ! :D
Spent an evening tweaking and then a full day of tiny post processing/compositing tweak in photoshop.

here is the scene's arrangement:

Once again, extremely happy with the volumetrics and handling of the 40 million polygons, I just need to figure out why I can't make the volume/absorption behave like in the documentation to make SSS, and I'll feel home with Corona ;)
Hope you guys like !

PS: it's on the cover of my website that I just launched this Sunday:
www.efflammercier.com if you guys are interested in seeing more of my work :)

thanks! it helped quite a bit on the leaves, the sparkles are still present but it'snow correctly reflecting trough the fog, giving it a cool blue tint.

Hey guys I just bought 1 month of Corona and having lots of fun so far, this is my first try at doing a Landscape, i'm making a Night scene of this one with HQ laubwerks plants instead of Onyx trees.

Stats: 9 million unique polygons, 20 millions instanced, used CoronaProxy and CoronaScatter, global volume material with 0.5 directional , made it in one evening

here is a  screengrab:

Currently doing the night one, and I am very impressed by CoronaVolumeMtl !

hope you guys like it.

Hey there ! I just bought 1 month of corona and having lots of fun.
here's the image I'm having problem with :

Problem n°1 :
scene does not start rendering (interactive and render modes) , it stays black, says "not responding" and is basically frozen, CPU is at 5% and memory is about 10 gigs used by max, so still 6GB of overhead, but sometimes the render just starts fine, in a way that I can't make sense of, I mean I open the scene the exact same way and get different results it's pretty strange.

Problem n°2:
Firefly noise on leaves
(I'd like to fix this problem without biasing  the render eg:clamping, disabling sun reflections, etc.)
Fireflies are present in the direct, reflection and some minor ones in translucency pass, they are coming mostly from the CoronaSun  and some from the fire light in the middle.
glossiness is at 0.6, fresnel 1.33, level 1, 0.14 translucency
I'm wondering if letting the render run for hours can resolve theses glossy leaves correctly?

Problem n°2 isn't such a big deal since I can also tone down the fireflies in photoshop, but the crashes are really blocking me from working properly on the scene.
Hope you guys can help me ! :)
