[Max] I need help! / Re: correct Workflow with exposure?

Maru,

Just believe when I say I have a hard time trying to pursued these friends, half the time it makes no sense at all so find myself trying to finding out the correct answer just to prove them wrong and then they don't always believe it anyway. Constant light values = constant material, light, env values to work with. I'll see how I get on explaining this one 😊!

Ondra, thank you for the quick response. That makes a lot more sense than locking exposure at 0.

[Max] I need help! / correct Workflow with exposure?

Regarding setting up an interior or exterior scene I always tweaked the exposure as required having found a good balance between Sun and Sky. I have since had a few friends saying that exposure should be kept a 0 and tweak the Sun and Sky from there on as this makes for a more controlled scene with less blownout areas and less noise. Is this the case, I cant see any huge differences myself with some simple tests carried out? Are there any benefits/down sides to locking exposure to 0. Seems a bit counter productive, but just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing a trick.

Personally I like to work with as many constants in my workflow, but for me exposure is a complete variable, especially if used in a physical camera workflow.

Thank you for any feedback on the matter.

How do I enable the render stamp via maxscript?

I'm all out of ideas from what I've tried and there's not alot of info out there.

Many thanks for your help

romullus, maru,

That's great. Thank you for clearing that up. Makes complete sense now.

I have tried using this method with a hdri map, but with no luck. Maru's link works very well with smaller objects requiring a CoronaLight material, but for a main light source I cannot get this to work. I have tried putting a VrayHDRI map into a CoronaOutput map and flicking between "Affected by Colour mapping". This seems to alter the whole illumination of the scene and not just the visual appearance of background as I thought would happen (i.e not getting a blown out background).

In vray you can use the dome dome light for lighting and a separate hdri loaded in the environment slot as your background which gave you control over the backplate to stop it blowing out. Very useful.

Not sure if this is possible in Corona?

Again like above i'm not sure if it's worth starting another thread, also keeps a number of maxscript questions together.

Just a quick one really. Is there a function for starting interactive rendering? I would like to create my own dialogue and this is a function I would like to add.

Many thanks

How do I gain access to the properties of certain render elements via maxscript. I would like to write a script that adds the render element "CShading_RawComponent" but sets it's component to use "Reflect" instead of the default "Diffuse".

Can anyone point me in the write direction. Is there a maxscript function that can expose all the properties of all the corona elements?

Also I tried to login to the "https://corona-renderer.com/wiki" but it seems like a different login and i cant see where i can actually register?

Thanks.
