Thanks for all your help, guys! Unfortunately, I wound up with a client who doesn't really understand refraction and kept trying to have me remove "the dark parts" until it just looked like a piece of glass. After that, she had me light it from the front only to get really hot highlights, ruining the glow from backlighting. Then she didn't like that it no longer looked soft.

In the end, I even had to switch back to Mental Ray to make the deadline with an outsourced render farm. :\

Still, I appreciate the feedback and support! I'm going to keep an eye on Corona and keep playing with it when I can. It's really great. :D

I would not go with absortion with these guys... check attached. I think refraction color is enough. Maybe you could add a little gloss reflection plus a hard one using a blend material. Cheking reflections on gummy bears look like it.

(Waiting for GGX shader)...

I really like how this looks, and it's a fantastic starting point. Wouldn't absorption better mimic a fake SSS, though?

some weeks ago i convert a vray scene with gummi bears :-)
not very realistic for extrem closeups i think, but not bad without sss

Wow, that's almost exactly the texture! Would you mind sharing your material or the scene?

Hm! Well, I have a bump map driving some texture to the highlights which are glossy. I thought I was using Caustics, but maybe I haven't set it up properly for that. I have it enabled on the material, anyway. Settings for the red gummi attached.

Hi folks,

I've been trying to make a decent looking gummi bear texture. For the life of me, I can't seem to land on settings which look realistic and interesting. I usually use Mental Ray native to Max 2014/2015, but just discovered Corona. Can anyone recommend a material which would work well at least as a starting point?

It's such a confusing material, with the way some are nearly see-through, yet they scatter color and make lights glow inside the bodies.

Attached are renderings I made after hours of attempts, but I don't feel like it's anywhere *near* a proper material. The pineapple looks really muddy and neither have the sort of highlighting I'd expect from gelatin. Anyone ever created something as mind-boggling as this substance and able to offer guidance?

Thanks!
