[C4D] General Discussion / Re: How to use Chaos Scans
« on: 2025-08-03, 13:36:20 »Does anyone know what the real difference is between chaos vrscans and chaos cosmos?Chaos V-Ray Scans (VRscans) and Chaos Cosmos are both asset libraries from Chaos (formerly Chaos Group), but they serve different purposes and have distinct features. Here’s a breakdown of their key differences:
1. Chaos V-Ray Scans (VRscans)
Type of Assets:
- Highly realistic, scanned materials (not models).
Made using real-world material scanning technology (capturing accurate reflectance, roughness, etc.).
- Best for architectural visualization, product design, and hyper-realistic renders.
Used when absolute material accuracy is needed (e.g., metals, fabrics, woods, plastics).
- Uses V-Ray’s VRscans material system, which relies on measured BRDF data for physically correct shading.
- Requires a separate subscription (not included in V-Ray by default).
Works only in V-Ray (not compatible with other renderers).
Type of Assets:
- 3D models, materials, HDRIs, and decals (not just materials).
Includes pre-optimized assets (not scanned, but artist-created for efficiency).
- Great for quick scene setup in Archviz, interior design, and general 3D workflows.
Focuses on speed and ease of use rather than ultra-high accuracy.
- Drag-and-drop assets that auto-adapt to your render engine (V-Ray, Corona, etc.).
Uses smart optimization (e.g., Cosmos materials adjust based on renderer).
- Free with V-Ray (or Chaos licensing).
Works in multiple DCCs (3ds Max, SketchUp, Revit, Rhino, etc.).
- Use VRscans if you need scientifically accurate materials (e.g., for product design or high-end archviz).
Use Cosmos if you want quick, high-quality assets (models, HDRIs, and decent materials) without heavy optimization work.
