Careful with benchmarks.  They can be tricky if you're basing your presumtions on milliseconds.

You'll also wish to consider heat dissipation, how hot the chip in question runs, but also. graphics processor if you plan on dipping into Vantage or other similar gpu/xpu real time renderer.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I have very poor results with cpu heat, during real time rendering ineractive renderers), unless I'm on a workstation running water loops.  (My preference not to be in the 80-90c range).

I personally cringe at the thought of running high specs on a laptop, but then, many do, so I'm certain you'll work it our.

Please make sure whatever you purchase, handles heat very well.

[C4D] General Discussion / Re: Camera Object Size

No Dave, we're talking past each other. I am listening just fine.

It seems to be an issue between autodesk and maxxon, and how they interpret.  You can believe me or not (why you say I'm not listening), but exporting from revit isn't working, at least at scale.

To be clear, likewise, Revit refuses to export fbx materials from revit, into any other program, but Max (an autodesk brother prog), so you can believe me that they're not playing nice with other software developers, or not.  Go try it for yourself, you'll see.

It's typical of autodesk: play in any other ecosystem but their's, you'll pay one way or another.  Very preditory indeed, keeping everyone locked in.

In the end, I was able to scale up the model, to fit the camera, and the "scale" of the scene, but that was arbitrary, and not precise.

So to answer my own question, without knowing the answer, so there is no way to scale the camera object....???  It's all I've been asking.

Moving along, it would appear to me that C4d does not play nice with imported geometry, cominig in at scale (even when the scale is correct), either that, or Revit is exporting wrong geometry, which seems preposterous, considering I use scale contantly in a CAD/BIM environment, so if that were true, Revit would not be producing correct drawings in plans either...

In any event, again, I am importing this FBX from Revit at 12" = 1' scale, which is actual the actual physical size of structure.  How that transaltes to an imported FBX in this program, I have no idea.

Thanks to those who chimed in.

Second Image, newly re-exported at verified scale.

Hi All,

This seems like it should be such an easy parameter to expose....physical size of a camera....I've tried everywhere, here, Meta AI, Redit, frustration and suggestions from 2009 abound, but I see no answers...(such a simple question...).

When I select the acual camera object, in the object manager, and scale the camera, the only thing that scales is the Focal Distance.  This seems to happen no matter how I select the camera (directly, rectangular selection, etc).

Further, I know I can turn off the camera, but I'm still wearing training wheels, and I've only been in the ecosystem for about three weeks, so I want to visualize what's happening, as I plan to use this as a motion camera, so I literally want to SEE it, where it's going.  I'm not into the coordinate system just yet, that will come.

So, can I resize the actual camera object itself, in C4d/Corona, so I'm not looking at a small stick figure camera person (motion cam), holding a gigantic camera thats half again the size of my 4k sf house?  I certainly won't rescale the home, it's a very complex FBX imported from Revit, and I am going to extract info and set up renders room by room, as I go along, rather than recreating rooms independantly.

See attachement.

Any help will greatly be appreciated, and all the best.

Billy

Thanks for the heads up on that, and "ouch", as I've been trying to stay with UVW mats, but have had to go cubic on a couple, so not good news there (and odd too, considering Corona Tut's advocate various projections).

Anyway, thanks for chiming in and contrib'ing.  This is usable info to be sure!

Answering my own question here...

No Live Link in Corona/Vantage.

Second Image is Corona interactive render, first post image is the same scene exported to Vantage.

[C4D] General Discussion / Texture issue Corona to Vantage.
« on: 2024-07-12, 03:22:48 »
Hi All,

V12, up to date C4D,  I have applied created physical materials (albedo/bump(normals through a normal node)/roughness, all light wood going through a variation (albedo/roughness/bump)), and applied these woods textures to imported FXB cabs.  When inititating a Vantage session, these applied materails simply vanish, replaced with some white mat.

I'm new to Corona and C4d both, so I have no idea why this might be happening, or what I could be missing.  In my mind, since everything is supposed to be in the same family, this should not be happening.

Please see photos and if anyone has any advise or thought, I sure would apprectiate your thoughts.

All my best,

Billy

[C4D] General Discussion / Re: Rotate bitmap texture

Hi John,

I just checked into the forum before hitting the sack ( it's past midnight on the west coast of u.s.) .

I'm going to dive in face first in the morning...so I just wanted to thank you very much for contrib'ing and understanding.  To wit, one of the issues which has been very confounding to me has been UI pathing, which I understand will come with more time in the UI, But I do find things mildly confusing because I seem to keep losing my way depending on what parameters I select.  Your images seem pretty straightforward, so other than ranting, hopefully, following your breadcrumb trails some of this will clarify things, and I honestly appreciate the vine you've tossed in my direction to help pull me out of what started feeling like quicksand, for just a minute...

My very best to you.

[C4D] General Discussion / Rotate bitmap texture
« on: 2024-07-08, 04:43:13 »
Hello,

I just spent the weekend beating my forehead bloody trying to simply rotate a bitmap texture in Corona.  Then I just came across this thread.

https://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php?topic=35327.15  So am I correctly inferring I cannot simply rotate a bitmap texture in Corona, in the creation dialog in the node or material editors?

I am a 20 year vet using Revit, and I have been mainly using Enscape and Twinmotion for arch viz.  I want to dramatically up my game, so I subscribed....but it seems even the " easy" renderer in the Chaos family is anything but.  I know RTR's are toys to most of you here, but I have to start somewhere.  In the RTR's, the parameter to rotate a texture is completely and obviously exposed.  I am under critical pressure to produce excellent renders, and I am anything but dense, but just getting a simple texture and positioning it in this program has been an absolute nightmare for me.

It seems to me Chaos could care less about new users, at least this is how this feels to me.  Every question I have asked resulted in an absolute quest to find answers, and now, at least on the surface, it seems I can't even rotate a TEXTURE?

I hope someone on this team can restore my faith and sanity.  I am trying to learn C4D and Corona at the same time.

Help.

B.
