I played with this a little and wasn't able to get it to work for me but I appreciate the idea.  It's like I'm in isolation mode but with no geometry.  Cycling IR on\off once solves it, though and the problem doesn't come back until I open max again.  Interestingly if I don't cycle IR on\off and try production render it doesn't generate anything either and then the scene crashes shortly after.

I'll have to upgrade to the latest HF and try with some fresher scenes and see if it keeps happening, especially if no one else is seeing the same behavior.

I'm running the latest Daily (5/7...haven't upgraded to today's HF yet) and I am occasionally having an issue where the first time I use IR upon opening a scene it renders 'empty.'  As in no geometry visible, just the environment background.  If I turn off IR and start again usually everything shows up.

Anyone else experience this?  I don't know that it's scene specific, I have two totally separate scenes where it's happening.  Maybe the latest HF fixes it but I don't see it on the changelog.

Hi guys, the new scene parsing when scrubbing the timeline is an awesome feature, so are you planning to add it for the final render also? It would greatly speed up rendering the animations. Are you considering this for the next version or for the future?

Yeah if somehow this could work that way with Pulze Render Manager with the nodes is would reduce some of my animations by 30-50% where long load times kill me...not sure if this would work for non GUI instances like that but if so, wow.

Any ideas when Porting Material and Render Dialog UIs to Qt could be implemented?
It's the most popular request in Corona Ideas Portal with almost twice as much votes comparing to Toon shading.

Recently, I worked on a project in V-Ray after many years of working with Corona.
The difference in the material editor response is significant, and consequently, the workflow and productivity is improved.
I don't want to diminish the value of toon shading, I know that some users have been wanting this feature for years
but improving material editor response could be great improvment in everyday work for all users.

Was it VRay GPU or CPU you were using?  I'm just curious why with VRay slate would be snappier (I don't doubt it, I seem to vaguely remember experiencing it back in the day.)  Are aspects of slate\VRaymtl ported to QT already or something?

I'm happy for those users getting their toon shader but, man, for me the sluggishness with SME is such a buzz kill.  Will be great to see that getting improved one day!

After recieving an official mail from Chaos to take action in term of Licensing (the server certificate will expire on January28, 2025) I followed their instructions to update the chaos products to their latest versions.

After that action i am facing very laggy and bad workflow performance, specially: viewport navigation, mouse behaviour, slate material editor, decals not working consistantly, working with cosmos and general responsiveness issues when interactive rendering is active.

Info:
-3dsMax 2025, latest update on a fresh installation
-Corona 12 Update 1, latest update on a fresh installation
-new fresh simple and basic scene
-no additional installed plugins

Question:
Any ideas or solution how to deal with these issues?

Hi Frank - You may have more luck with Corona 12 HF 1 rather than 'Update 1.' HF 1 was available to download again last I checked.  I rolled back from Update 1 to HF 1 and most of the major lag related bugs were gone.  Word on the street is that Update 1 will get an fix this month.

Also in my experience Max 2025 uses quite a bit more VRam even with empty scenes (probably not even Corona related) so I rolled back to 2024.

Hope that helps, others may have more.

I encountered crazy mouse lag during IR and also when doing anything in SME.  But oddly I experienced (milder) mouse lag even without IR running, even just running the mouse over a complex object in the viewport would cause slight lag.  I downgraded pretty fast back to the July 30 DB which didn't have those problems and then from there to HF 1 which, for me, performs the same as that DB.  I didn't upgrade my nodes or do any major rendering with 12.1 so I can't speak to rendertimes, the lag was a dealbreaker for me and I have deadlines :)

I hope they figure out what's going on with 12.1.  Cheers,

The sluggishness is known for high core machines and is being investigated.
Backward compatibility was never guaranteed - Corona 12 Update 1 saved scenes are not guaranteed to work with Corona 12 Hotfix 1, so please back up the scenes. Corona 12 Hotfix 1 saved scene should work fine with Corona 12 Update 1.

Please, whoever is investigating this: please check if IR is faster (more rays/s), for any given scene, in Corona 12 Update 1 than in Corona 12 Hotfix 1. If so, please confirm it, so we know that we are on the right track.

Can you provide a link for V12 HF 1?  It's not listed under 'older versions' on the chaos download page and the changelog forum pages don't link directly to it that I can find.  Going to try rolling back from the July 30 build to see if my VRAM drops like Sepia's results.

I wonder if anyone experiencing this sluggishness has looked at their GPU VRAM usage in Task Manager?  That's when my viewport\slate\UI seems to come to a screeching halt for me lately.  Scenes that shouldn't really be maxing out VRAM still sometimes do.  Very odd.  Saying things are sluggish is an understatement, and when IR starts it can get nearly unusable.  Even in isolation mode with one object I still get 95% VRAM usage, although perhaps Max doesn't clear VRAM in isolation mode, can't say I've tested that before.

There is already a similar report being investigated.

Got a chance to test this yesterday.  Moving from the July 30 build to the stable Corona 12 Update 1 resulted in the same VRAM usage but did add an insane sluggishness to my UI\mouse that I hadn't experienced before.  Even with IR not running my mouse would freeze and pause.  Just running the cursor over complex objects in the viewport (not even selecting them) was enough to cause mouse lag.  Very odd.

I downgraded back to the July 30 DB and all that went away.  FWIW the scene I was in would result in a hard crash upon opening with the July 30 build after having been saved in Update 1.  I merged it into a new scene and that crash went away.

As for VRAM, Max 2025.3 seems to result in 3-4gb more VRAM usage than 2024 even with empty scenes.  I haven't tried it with Corona uninstalled fully but perhaps its a Max bug.  Sepia21 I'd be curious if 2024 gives you less VRAM usage like me *shrug*

Monitoring VRAM is good idea. I use 16+ GB VRAM GPUs but even then I still use only 1024px Viewport setting (remember CoronaBitmap uses the Environment setting, so just set 3x1024px and enjoy looking at blurry shit in viewport :- D !)

Have you tried either 3090 or 4090 for the 24gb memory?  I've been eyeing one of those as an upgrade from my 11gb 2080 ti.  The 3090 seems like a decent price point (~$1500 USD) considering the other factors besides VRAM don't impact performance that much...

I have a really simple scene with basic materials (no textures used, only Corona basic materials), and my VRAM is almost full (7.4 GB out of a total of 8 GB is used). Even with this scene, using interactive is problematic and laggy. I have an RTX 3070, and my CPU is a Core i9 13900 with 64GB of RAM.
I never had this issue with previous Corona versions, even in much heavier files.

What Max version, just out of curiosity?

Ok will do.  For what it's worth I just downsaved the file to Max 2024 and am seeing about 3.5gb less VRAM usage which is crazy.  Same corona DB version between the two.
