Thanks for the feedback, agreed, the towels are awful. More of 'placement' object at this point and intend to make them better before final renders. I will look into assets and materials too and see if I can improve on these. Very determined to improve in general but of course whilst keeping the boss happy with timescales!

Appreciate the replies.

Thanks for the reply - I will go back to square one and gather some references as you say. I'm a bit constrained by the design as boss is clear on what he wants to show and the placement of it e.g. sink/vanity on the right, single towel rail on left. Hopefully with some nicer references I can improve this nonetheless.

Cheers

Hello, I usually do more product shots so interiors aren't really my strong point (yet!). Seen some great work on these forums so hopefully someone can give some advice feedback on this set of images. Design is client choice (my boss) and I cannot change it. Basically told to have plain white walls, white marble floor and then black furnishings. Focus point is the long black drain.

How can I improve the overall look and realism please? Lighting feels a bit off and I struggle to find a balance when it's enclosed space with no windows. I was reading the tone mapping forum post recently and actually decided to reduce highlight compression (alongside a few other tweaks) as it was originally looking quite grey / washed out. These are draft at half resolution (further compressed for attachments size limit).

Thanks for any feedback.

Appreciate the detailed advice. Literally just playing with the OSL Noise now and I used a colour correct to control the roughness but I think your approach is better. Ordinarily I would also try to add some dirt etc but as you mention, for a product shoot then it has to be clean.

Getting on track with this now and and will run some further tests but you're advice is/has been greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Thanks for your reply Avi - the result I have managed to get is close to the actual part just using the clear coat parameters.

Didn't know that about the OSL Noise so I will test that out too as could be useful for future works. Thanks for the advice! The final images will be a mixture of close up and distance shots too so again this could be useful.

Presumably I'd plug the noise map into both base roughness and bump?

Thanks again!

Hi Avi / Burnin

Thanks both for the reply - to be honest, I did have some references attached before which I've now re-attached. I was trying to remove the post because I felt a bit silly about not being able to do something simple like this.....

I have access to Siger shaders so my thought was to use the Stainless Steel Satin texture as a base and then just modify the base and edge colours but don't know if this would be the correct approach or if there is a better method? The material setup image is using clear coat to modify colour at the moment.

Thanks

Hi

I'm sure this should be simple but could anyone please give some advice on creating a metal texture and what method to use e.g. change base colour, add a clearcoat or create layered material?

The finish is Satin Gunmetal. The part starts as a brushed/grained stainless steel and then a dye is applied on top to modify the colour. I

Would really appreciate any advice that can be given on this. Thanks!

thanks Maru, I hadn't thought of the UVW Xform Modifier - I'll try this out too with this TileMap Material.

Cheers all

Hey Romullus, thanks for your reply.

I did check the UVW mapping of the wall object and it was set to RWS, although I since realised the plank bitmaps were not set to RWS. Once I did this and figured out the correct UV sizes it has started to look more as expected. Not quite perfect, but getting towards the end goal. As attached screen grab from VFB

Thanks again!

Hi

I'm trying to create a material using the CoronaTileMap which is a wood effect porcelain tile, as per the attached example. I'm sure it's quite simple but I'm missing something and I can't make it work correctly. Could anyone please help me out with this?

My initial thought was to have individual wood plank bitmaps plugged into a multimap, mapping randomizer and then to tile colour but I can't get the UVW mapping to look right. I've also attached a screenshot of the current material setup and IR from the VFB showing some kind of result.....

Thanks!

I was having the same/similar issues launching the videos and something that worked for me was to simply hold CTRL and then click the video thumbnail. This opened the player (on the same page) and then I could full screen it.
Might work for others too if you have this problem launching the videos.
