[Max] General Discussion / Object not showing in render after applying material

I'm currently modeling a simple chair with stitches. I was able to model the stitches using 'create shape from selection' then spline configs - convert to edit poly. Up until this point the stitches show on my render but the moment I apply any type of material to it, it does not show anymore.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
