Sounds good.

As of right now I did a super simple test to confirm it was the flares.

I had a brand new window in max. I changed renderer to corona. I created a sphere light. I rendered sphere light without changing any settings except for enabling bloom/glare. Once I stopped render i clicked save from the vfb as a .exr. And wala, freeze.

I did however render another shot on my other computer and it was just fine. So I will look into this more tonight and see what it can be.
Odd thing is, I rendered an image earlier on the same machine that is now freezing just fine. Maybe a restart will fix.

Thanks Tom!

I have been out of the loop on Corona for a couple months but getting back into it this week. Noticed today after getting the latest version that I cannot use the flares anymore because when I try to save it freezes. I google this issue and saw it was something that was a problem a long time ago, looks like its back?

I have the latest Corona 5 download from the dropbox folder. Tested various situations and its 100% caused by using the flares.

Noticed an issue with latest build for max. When you do 2d zoom the reflections now change. This makes it impossible to dial in anything using the zoom feature.

Not sure if this is with the model I am working with or latest version of DB, but my max keeps crashing when trying to dial in Corona Light Material. Instant crash.
128gb ram and i9-7980xe cpu. Dont think its a hardware issue.

Again, not sure if its something in regards to new DB or not, but wanted to mention it.

So after doing some research I found out what causes the problem but not sure if its an easy fix or not. If I have a World Space Modified in the scene that I am xrefing the objects from that causes it to crash. If I delete the World Space Modifiers then everything runs perfect and no issues at all with RT. Hope this helps with something.

Not sure if this is related to the latest build or a few prior to it but I noticed when using Corona RT along with Xref Objects, creating any new objects in the scene crashes max. This use to not happen before. Not sure if this is just on my end or not but wanted to share. I tested same scene with all objects merged and its perfect again, so its certainly related to the xref objects workflow.

Hi,
in latest and previous one daily build there is problem with "Alpha mode: For Composing" in CoronaShadowCatcherMtl. Alpha is full white. In version 04.01 everything works fine.

This is also occurring for me and "transparent" mode. Had to create alphas for my car and bg to separate it.

You should use in-render motion blur next time. It won't add much to the rendertime, but it will look much better ;)

If you added some MB in post, then I am afraid it was not enough, as it looks it is completely missing it. Great thing about in-render MB is that you just set shutter to be half the frame, and you will know the MB length and intensity will be correct everywhere :)

Yes this is very true! :)
Tbh only reason I didn't go crazy with mblur and dof thats real is because I was doing this as a test at home so I did not want crazy render times. My next attempt will be a real one as I have learned a few tricks that will help me a lot with the quality of the next video. I will also focus on accurate camera movements next time haha.

It looks that you've blended dome enviroment with regular textured plane under the car. Did you do that straight in 3D or did you comped that in post?

Good job. Experience is pretty seamless, except for one shot, where it can be clearly seen some strange movement in the background.

The ground blend was all done in 3D. Only thing done in post was DOF, Grain, Motion Blur, Chromatic Aberration, and some color tweak.

Hey there. I want to share my recent case study with you fellow artists. The focus here was to see how I should shoot a Dome for the purpose of using it as an environment only. I know my camera movements are not 100% realistic but that is because I was more focused on seeing where the environment would break and how to avoid doing it in the future or how to improve the next attempt.
Overall I was very happy with the Corona dome feature and have learned quite a bit on what to do to make the next real attempt a lot more convincing with even less distortion. If anybody is interested in an in depth breakdown I have it available on the behance page.
Hope you guys/gals like it!

On a side note in case some of you are interested in the render aspect.
1920x1080 was final output
20 passes a frame
about 3.5min each frame. I added a little denoising at about 0.5 and also afcorse had to do lensflares. (I am a sucker for lensflares lol)

So I know its not vray, I also do not care to go back to using vray because of how fantastic Corona is. My question is, is there a possibility Corona can have a "scan" support plugin added? That would open up any render engine scans and use them as if they were made for Corona?
I played with a few carpaint scans at work from the vray lib and thought they might be cool to use on personal projects in Corona because I hate the performance of Vray.

Testing out some new methods of shooting backplates and why not add two fancy cars into the mix.
Feedback always welcome.

Aha! Okay so I did the test Rawalanche.
I see what is happening. Vray and Corona have the same concept inverted lol.

I agree with you on the ball sample, vray will only do this if I do not override backplate image, which makes it actually a bigger pain than Corona and actually corona wins here with it being easier.
But I do have to still stand behind the logic that when you do refraction override in Corona it does behave a little bit different than when you have a backplate image in Vray env slot.

I guess at this point its either one way or another, in this sense the foundation of Corona is more accurate if you want to use balls and such, however it does backfire in the sense of refraction override but that can be fixed with a plane behind windows.

Just knowing solutions to problems, still cgi so it can never be 100% easy hahahaha. :)
