Hm, you still should be able to create any object if a custom grid is active, just make sure that you're drawing it on grid plane, same as with regular (home) grid.

I think the problem was that i was constantly trying to create it in a top view, and my grid was set up for a really weird angle.

Oh my god, i can not believe i did not think of that, that was it! Thank you very much, i feel very embarrassed now lol

General CG Discussion / 3DS Max can't create any new objects
« on: 2025-05-06, 12:46:08 »
Hi everyone, first of all sorry if i missed the category, but after searching all over i couldn't fix the problem i have.

I literally can't create anything, any objects, cameras, forestpack, literally any object in 3DS Max, i suspect it happened after i imported another model into a scene. I tried reseting the preferences, reseting the controller to default aswell but nothing seems to help. I want to point out that this is only a case on a specific scene, new ones and other scenes i have work propertly.

So if anyone has any idea on how to fix this it would be a lifesaver, thanks!

I seem to have fixed it by reducing segments on chamfer modifier from 1 to 0 and reducing the size to almost nothing 0.01-0.05

Hey Tom,

Thank you for your reply, i somehow completely missed this thread. For the life of me i couldn't get the curvature mask to work, but I've had more luck with the Data Channel, overall it works better and its closer to what i want, but I do have slight issues with it. I've provided the close up image of what i think, I've pretty much copied your setup from the post you provided, and for some reason my chamfer seems to be "splitting"? Or that is the best i can describe it, it doest seem to project dispalcement evenly and it looks like its treating it as a split mesh I guess, but mu knowledge is limited.

Hi everyone, first of all hope you are having a great day. I've been using corona for about year and a half now, mostly for interior, but i have recently started doing exterior renders. I've been trying to create effect of rough edges, on the cast concrete mostly but could use it for other examples aswell, i tried using corona curvature map to create a mask just for edges which i would use to isolate a displacement map and apply it just on said edges but it doesn't seem to A) work as well as i would hope and B) mix with other surface bump/normal/displacements i have. I've attached a WIP of a scene where i was practicing this. As you can see it is barely noticeable.

So if anyone has some experience with it, or has idea how to do it possibly I would be very grateful!

Corona uses adaptivity, to prioritize which lights get more calculations in which areas of the image. In this case, your bright sunlight from the other HDRI is leading the way as needing the highest priority as "the most important light" for that area in the image, which results in other lights falling in that area getting less processing.

You could leave everything rendering until that patch clears up for the version where the sun patch is turned off.

Or you make all lights a similar intensity when rendering, e.g. this HDRI could be turned down in intensity so that it is "too dark", that way all lights get equal consideration. It may look odd in the Beauty, or even in single render elemetns, but you then render until the image is clean, and all lights will be equally clean, and you can adjust their intensities in LightMix to boost them back up, and there should be no noisy patches when a bright light source is turned off in LightMix.

Or you can turn off adaptivity, as another approach, forcing Corona to treat all lights equally anyway.

Thank you Tom, this helped me understand a lot, i am fairly new at this so all these comments from you guys are of a great help. I've run a quick low-res render and sure enough no more noisy and burned out spots.

If you're using lightmix, then make sure that your light intensities are not set to too high values, otherwise you may get noisy results. Scroll to the "what are the limitations" part in this article to read about this more. https://support.chaos.com/hc/en-us/articles/4528606952849-How-to-use-interactive-LightMix-in-Corona-for-3ds-Max-

Thank you, i will check it out!

Okay, I've done some digging and that noise patch matches perfectly with sun ray of another HDRI I have in my LightMix, so should i not have different HDRIs set up in my LightMix then?

Hello Avi,

I am using Corona 9 with Max 22, in this instance i am using both HDRI for soft shadows and Corona Sun, but it happens even when I am only using either one of those. I am using reflection override, no changes in performance and yes, noise appears in the same spot and the same pattern on every render run.

Thank you

Hello, i have a problem where these patches of noise still exist even with small noise level, 1%. They seem to often be really uniform in shape, does anyone have idea what is causing this, bump, glossines, geometry?

I have one example bellow but it happens in random places from time to time.

Any input would be great, thank you!

Thank you very much Juraj!

I will check it out. Also looking forward to your tests, it might be just mine specific problem.

Hello everyone, i hope you're having a great day/night.

After Intel's 12th gen having problems with all cores not running on Win 10 and upgrading to Win 11 and solving that problem i found out that problem is still somewhat present, anyway, when i start my render all cores go to 100% (both E and P cores) as they should, and its all going great until i want to switch windows, for example surf web, or open any other window on my pc, P cores go back to 0% and it seems like it starts treating 3ds max as a background task.

Now i know this isn't necessarily a Max or Corona problem but i was wondering if anyone else encountered same or similar problem and if so how you've dealt with it.

Thank you!
