I just got it today too. It's a big waste of money so far. it doesn't actually do anything, and doesn't seem to work with corona. its only value appears to be the hdri's that were included with it. The metal expansion pack HDRi's are awwesome though :)

awesome guys, thanks for that. I was doing it well wrong. Looks great now!.

Thanks heaps guys, I've done as suggested, and it's looking pretty good, but I can't get the radial effect on the end caps. Is this a mapping issue? or do I need 2 materials, 1 for the ends caps and 1 for the sides?

Thanks Romulus, I'l give that a go tonight.
Just to be clear, bump doesn't effect the ansitropic?. My understanding was that it didn't work without some sort of bump enabled.

[C4D] General Discussion / Ansitropic Metal Material Help
« on: 2017-03-07, 22:58:06 »
Can anyone give me some help in creating a simple ansitropic brushed metal material. It's something I can never seem to get out of corona.
You can see the results im getting in the attachment. the left image is Corona for C4D and the Right is Vray for Rhino. The vray material uses a cheat, and the corona material is my best effort at a proper material. I'm using a material as follows:
Diffuse: Off
Reflection colour: Colour Swatch,
IOR: 30
Roughness: 80
Ansitropic Rotation: Radial Gradient
Ansitropic Amount: Slider full left
Bump: Radial brushed texture at 10%

I've noticed that when I render to viewport, with corona VBF selected in render options, the corona VBF pops up when I kill the viewport render. Is this intentional?. it seems a bit odd.

[C4D] Resolved Bugs / corona bitmap not working
« on: 2016-11-15, 11:56:39 »
in the material editor if you select corona bitmap in the diffuse slot and chose an image, it doesn't work. using the normal c4d bitmap works fine.

R14- Corona RC2
Win 10.

I could have worded some of that better I guess. Your library is your IP and we respect that.
I was just assuming that it's too time consuming for most content providers like yourself to port their products to c4d which is why we're not seeing anything availble. Will keep an eye on your stuff after the 1st release candidate :)

@Siger,
Since you're here, any chance of you porting your library to C4D and offering it on your site? Though misguided, iNevestenko has obviously spent alot of effort in creating this, and it shows there is a lack of content in the community right now. you're materials look great, and it would be awesome if the C4D community could have access to them...

I hope this means they have some big stuff in store for R18!

That's exactly how 3ds max users feels after each new versions announcement :]

It's also exactly what c4d users said about R17 :P

Thanks guys.

I've been looking at Bertrands work for a while. Amazing stuff. Still struggling to port some of his material ideas over to c4d. the layer system in c4d is quite different to the max nodes. making progress though.
I've signed up the grants classes too now. great stuff, and relevant to any software really.
Since finding the vkontakt corona c4d page I've been able to dissect some materials in c4d to see how the fresnel layers are made so that's been a big help too.
Cheers

General CG Discussion / Training advice
« on: 2015-08-12, 02:50:04 »
I'd like to get some opinions for you guys about the best way to improve my skills at product visualization.

In the past I've used v-ray, maxwell, arion, and thea but never had any real training on rendering, just trial and error/ self taught and free tutorials etc. I'm currently running c4d and corona obviously, but my direct boss has come to me saying "our render looks ^%$^, what software do we need to be using to get our renders looking like these guys?" (shows me a competitors website that I'm 99% sure are running max+v-ray.)

I've explained to him that you can great artists can produce great renders from any number of packages, and that any issues with our renders say more about my skills than the software we're using, and he's happy to fork out for training as a result.
I'm wondering what you guys would recommend in this situation?. Would a physical sit-in v-ray training course be my best bet? (I'm thinking the lighting, shading skills etc would be pretty transferable to corona...) or maybe there's online self-paced training that might be a better option?. any suggestions would be appreciated.

hmm. All I can say is keep trying. After numerous crashes (often after only 1 frame), I managed to get 850 frames out overnight without a hitch.
