[Max] I need help! / CoronaPhysicalMtl - Vegetation Shader
« on: 2021-09-29, 08:25:53 »
There is no clear method for converting a complex [vegetation] shader using the CoronaLegacyMtl to the CoronaPhysicalMtl, and the reason for this is likely due to how:

1. Refraction glossiness is yoked to base glossiness
2. Translucency, thin shell, and thin absorption are decoupled

Should I upload a sample to troubleshoot this, or just rely on the Legacy material for now - until (hopefully) there is an official converter solution for cases like this(?)

To be sure, what I am proposing in this thread is really far, FAR down on the list of 'nice to haves' for Corona Renderer, but it did occur to me, so I figured I'd post to the Feature Request thread for the record.

How would the user know if that slot accepts "regular" bump maps that work out of the box, or also the special kinds of bump maps that need the Bump Converter treatment?
Or maybe it should accept both types? (if possible)

Frankly, I don't totally understand the Corona Bump Converter - I basically only use it if a bump map is being troublesome, and so I've gotten into the habit of just using it all the time, thinking it will only help, not hurt. In that way, I'm not sure I'm prepared to distinguish between 'regular' and 'non-regular' bump maps as it pertains to the Corona Bump Converter.

Nice, thank you!

Dubcat asked that his content be pulled from the forum because it was outdated, I believe.

No problem, I really appreciate the script regardless - it's awesome!

@Avi, select the 'Light Mix' tab and you will see it, if a LightMix has been created

Hey Morpheus, honestly your macros works pretty well - thank you(!) Is it possible to expose parameters for rows and columns or grid spacing? For example, "I want to arrange these 8 objects into 2 rows and 4 columns".

Also, how is the spacing between each 'cell' in the array being determined, by bounding box? Can you expose a parameter to specify the spacing?

If none of that is possible, it's still a great script and thank you so much for sharing - it was what I was looking for!

[...] 3ds Max by default uses DirectX (-Y) normal maps, so Corona Team wisely decided to stick with that as default [...]

Eh, I've thought for years Corona Renderer uses DirectX?

Pretty sure you can disable reflections by setting IOR = 0 with 0.0 gloss / 1.0 rough

In the context of the Corona Layered Material, why does it make sense for Layer 1 to inherit displacement information from the base layer, but not bump information?

It would be great if there were a way to control the influence of bump information from an underlying layer (e.g. base material) on a subsequent layer (e.g. Layer 1).

The CoronaPhysicalMtl base bump and clearcoat bump provide a (sort of) paradigm to think about how this functionality might work.

Curious why the Adaptive Solver checkbox was moved from the Performance rollout to the Development rollout(?)

Hey morph3us, thanks for your effort! I'm out of the office this weekend, but I will test as soon as possible - looking forward to it :D

Increase blur and Ctrl+click on the canvas where you want the image to remain in focus (?)
