Support for Blender 2.8 would be my choice.

I used to make use of Proof Me, but they are down due to technical issues. I probably will go for Ftrack. Soon they will have a review option only.

Hardware / Re: Help needed building cheap 10gb network
« on: 2018-05-04, 12:34:41 »
Hi there,

we recently switched towards a 10Gb network.
Just awesome :-)
Whenever you open or save a large file in CIE or Photoshop you feel the speed.
Opening a large Max file with Xrefs, feels still slow, although instead of 12 minutes, it took 7 minutes.

We had to buy a new file server because the previous one did not have expansion slots for 10 GB network cards.
As a switch we bought the XS712Tv2 12-Port 10-Gigabit Smart Managed Pro Switch.
In our workstations we installed the ASUS XG-C100C Single 10GbE network cards. These are the once that Juraj mentioned. Yes, we had some troubles too, but after disabling in the advanced options the TCP/UDP Checksum offload for IPv4 and IPv6, everything works fine.

Cables: CAT6a SSTP
Renderfarm and Backup server are still on 1 Gb network.
Attached you find a speed test.

edit: new server has a mixture of SATA HDs and SSDs both in Raid 5. Qnap has a feature called Qtier which controls which data will be located on slow disks and which on fast disks.

We loved to work on this project.
Took a while to finish and render, but Corona did the job as expected!

[Max] I need help! / Re: Animation RAM
« on: 2018-04-16, 13:35:37 »
Hi

I recently tried Deadline, it is a great tool. Rendered an animation 1080HD on our farm, 26 days 24h/day, no issues at all.
I didn't checked the Ram usage, but we did not run into problems. Although plenty of proxies and forestpacks where in the scene.
Furthermore we had to render out a high res image (30.000 pixels width), it crashed on Rebusfarm, but did the job by using the tile function in Deadline.

I've successfully installed Deadline repository on my Qnap, and it runs fine. The DB however needs an actual computer to be run from, and to the best of my knowledge can not be run remotely properly from a NAS device.

Hi Njen,  in the meanwhile Deadline is running like a charm, as you described the Repsoitory on the Qnap and the Db on a windows PC.

cheers

Hi,
we are planning to make use of Deadline instead of Backburner. I know how to install Deadline on clients.
I would like to install the Repository and the MongoDB database on my Qnap Nas (yes fast enough and 10GB network).
Is there anyone out there who did this already? And If so, how?
Or is it better to install the repository on a windows PC and have s storage folder on the Nas?

Looking forward to your advice

Hi well done.
For a current project I need a texture like the one you have used for wall (granite the stone tiles).
Can you tell me where you have found/bought the texture?

Thanks

Hi Marcin,

yes I should have know that there is an option for choosing how many threads you can use for IR. Thanks for reminding me.
I know the Benchmark results for the CPU's I have in mind both multi and single threaded.

for example (MAXON CB15 values)
AMD 1950 threadripper: 164 single and 2989 multi
Intel I9 7900X: 193 single and 2151 multi
Intel I9 7940X: 189 single and 2879 multi

I am wondering if better if a singel threaded value will result in a more/better/quicker responsive MAX.
