[C4D] I need help! / Re: Jagged displacement problems

Aha - i've reduced the displacement screen size from 3px to 1 and that does help a lot actually. Thanks for the info!

I have the same problem in a new file so - I'm resurrecting this thread.
I've tried testing on different surfaces and with different resolutions and profiles, but without any luck. Pretty crappy jagged displacement on all tests.
Am i missing something? or is this a bug?
Screengrab and test file attached.
Hopefully someone can shed some light on it.

(oh, Daily Build april 15. c4d r20, mac)

Set to blending to 'subtract' in PS.

Nice - really calm tones.
+1 on the pendant cables. Splines don't have enough points. And the very nice purple glass vase has plants which are floating in mid-air.

I know what you mean about the edges of the masks (alphas) not being as clean as I'm used to. I think the Anti-aliased edges are sacrificed a bit in the balance to get clean-ish renders fast.
If you're not using a super complicated scene, I sometimes render a native C4D standard or physical pass with no lights or GI afterwards. The masks are super-sharp and the render only takes a couple of seconds.

As an update, this seems to be a problem when it's applied to certain geometry. On a flat parametric plane the material displaces fine. But on the object I want to use, the displacement is jagged. Mmmm

I'm trying to deboss some type onto a gloss surface, but I'm getting jagged edges rather than the smooth transition that I'm after.
The image i'm using is 4k, black and white, I've tried 16bit and 8 bit. Rgb and greyscale. Blurring the edges in Photoshop and blurring the edges in the C4D. But the artefacts are still there.

Am I missing something?

My understanding is that the HDRI/sky can be left at its default, and the desired exposure should be set in Exposure (Corona post precessing).
I'm happy to be corrected if that isn't the case.

Has there been a change to how Norma maps work?
It didn't need be flipped previously. Also, this doesn't explain the sudden non-compatibility with the projector shader.
Normal map attached nevertheless

[C4D] Bug Reporting / Normal Shader broken. Hotfix 2, V3 C4D
« on: 2019-04-05, 09:48:22 »
I am updating a project i built last year:

In the Bump channel I had a normal map (from Poliigon) inserted via the Corona Normal shader and scaled via the projector shader.
Everything worked fine. But when I have come to update the project and re-build the material it's not working properly.
The normal map looks inverted and the projector is not effecting the scaling.

If I remove the normal texture from the corona normal shader and plug it directly into the bump map via the projector, everything works as normal. So it seems to be a fault with the Corona Normal shader.

See screengrab for clarification. Any idea of a fix? Or is the Corona Normal shader now redundant?

Yes I agree that it's not so much that a library is needed - more that guidance is needed to make sure you're building materials the 'right' way.

A couple of pro-built scenes that have been checked by the corona devs would be really useful. There was the Slashcube Paris scene wasn't there? That was pretty stunning. Maybe someone could update that as a starting point (as some Corona features have been tweaked since that scene was built).

Thanks Johnnyswedish, good to know. I'll take a look too.

I had a quick look at the file.
I put the light into a cloner - and indeed it didn't transfer the colour to the cloner instances.
BUT, when I used Temperature instead of Colour as the colourisation method, it worked fine. So perhaps this will be a decent fix  for now

Thanks for the reply. I didn't know about that course. But unfortunately I already know quite a lot of the other stuff that's discussed in it and I don't see any explicit mention of nodes.

I suppose that I'm just a bit surprised really. Corona is a commercial release now. And it's one thing not having a manual, but having NO information on how to use such a major area seems a bit slack TBH.
