[Max] General Discussion / Listen to users
« on: 2020-07-12, 20:30:33 »
My biggest feature request atm is that the corona dev team listens to their user's requests. There are so many great feature requests on the forum but almost none of them are incorporated in the Corona engine. I think that's really weird because the users are the reason corona can exist. It also gives me the feeling that the dev team is not taking their costumer's requests seriously.

Don't get me wrong, I do appreciate the updates and Corona is a fine render engine with good features, but for me personally, a render speed upgrade is far less important than good usability upgrades and new features to make my work go faster. I'd rather wait a while longer for my render to finish than having to do workarounds because the UI could be improved or handy simple features could be added.

I asked for this a while ago, nothing has changed since then...

I vote for Blender as well. I'm dying to switch to Blender because 3ds max is just so awful. It's slow, crashes all the time and get the minimal amount of new features/improvements. A package that is as good as Blender and is also free is actually a dream come true. But I have to wait until either Corona or Fstorm is available for it.

So big vote for Blender!

So these images you show are made with on the textures? Or is there some forest pack instancing involved as well?

20
Aha! I completely overlooked that, thanks.

No issues surrounding the units, it's a very simple scene with only a product as subject and no sss or dielectric materials. Changing the gizmo is of course much easier and better.

21
Oke figured it out myself. If you change the units to centimeters the lights will change the indicators, but you have to restart Max to see the effect, which I didn't do at first. :)

[Max] I need help! / Remove corona light strength indicator
« on: 2020-05-26, 10:21:40 »
Hi,

I've made a scene that is set to meters but my subject is pretty small (my bad when setting up the scene), so the corona lights have very large intensity indicators (the yellow lines that come from the lights) and I have multiple lights setup close to each other which makes it very confusing to select the right light. Is it possible to remove or makes smaller those intensity indicators?

That can be a nice solution, I could just keep one light object in my Copitor and paste it whenever I need it, thanks.

24
Yes, that works. Thanks for the tip.

So if I get this right a Corona light isn't actual geometry so it can't be visible when turning off Reflections, but a Corona Light Material is applied to geometry so it CAN do this. As far as I can see the Corona Light Material has all the options a normal Corona light has but it's different in this one thing, why isn't there an option available to turn a Corona Light into geometry so it can only be visible for reflections? I'm asking because I do a lot of product visuals and I'm changing the light settings all the time, so having to pick a material with the material picker and the changing the settings is an annoying extra step which I have to do a lot of times.

[Max] I need help! / Set lights to effect reflection ONLY
« on: 2020-05-18, 15:27:44 »
Hello,

Is it possible to set a corona light to affect the reflection on an object only?

So it is possible to remove the reflection of a light and keep the diffuse but is it also possible to do it the other way around?

Thanks!

Thanks for your help! Hopefully this can be fixed soon! It's kind of frustrating that this is still a bug in the software. I need to make deadlines and this testing takes a lot of time. As I said I started a topic on this about a year ago and the same issue surfaced. I was hoping it would have been fixed by now!

In any case, thanks for your help!

Another case that's also weird:

There are no lights in the scene just the box and a plane with a shadow catcher material. The box is reflecting in on the plane. This shouldn't be right, because there is no light hitting the box.

Sorry if I'm sending too much information, I'm just reporting what I bump into :)

Thanks. Yes I noticed and that seems to fix it for that scene.

I think i fixed it, I remember talking in another topic about this and a user told me that when the background color is a full black some stuff doesn't work with the shadow catcher material. Changing the bg colour to the darkest tint of black makes it work for some reason. The weird thing is that I have scenes where this works and scenes where it doesn't.

I also have a scene with only one light, excluded the floor plane but it's still showing up as a reflection, only when I turn off "Occulde other lights" it disappears. It weird showing up at all because in my previous tests a Corona light wouldn't show up in the reflection at all. But that might be because the background colour is set to a value 21. Changing the background color to 21 makes the alpha channel almost completely white.

Hope this helps

Another thing that I noticed that is weird, is that Corona Lights and Corona Light materials don't show up as a reflection in the alpha of a shadow catcher material. But a normal Corona material with an emitting component to it, does. So now I'm replacing lights that should be reflective on the ground plane by a material that's emitting light. But the problem is that a material doesn't have all the options a normal Corona light does.

This specific part is injection moulded polycarbonate and it will be clear, so no colour.

I still need to find the time to take a look at this, will try in the coming days. :)
