Hi guys,

My workflow at our architecture is modelling, texturing and camera placement in Sketchup.We then import it into max to render with corona.
But now i also want to overlay the sketchup lines (exported as jpeg) in photoshop on top of the rendered image. The problem is that the cameras imported into max don't line out to the original scene in sketchup.
Does anyone have experience with this problem?

Hi Guys,

A printing related question. So far all my daytime renders print out very well. What i see on my screen is looking very similair on what i print. But now i rendered an evening scene, with lots of blues. And when i print it, it turns out very bleached and grey. The nice blues in the render is very dull. Similair colorshift is visible when setting the render in photoshop from RGB to CMYK. I alrealy showed the nice screen version to my employer, so i really want to print it like that.

Do you guys have any tips with this problem?

Hi Guys,

I have a problem with rotating my HDRI is loaded in my environment (8). I used CoronaBitmap to load the HDRI. When i rotate it with 'Angle W'it seems to rotate (not in the correct axis of course). But using the U offset nothing seems to happen. I use Corona 1.5 with 3ds Max 2017.

Hi guys,

I just bought myself a license for VFB+ as the trial i used worked very nicely with Corona Render. Now i also want to play around with the LUT settings. Can someone tell me where i can get good (free) lut files?

Hi Guys,

Wanted to share my own project. Worked on it on and off for a couple of months in my spare time. Design is my own, built up from references of Nordic houses and sheds. Software used:

Modeling: Sketchup and 3ds max
Trees and plants: Evermotion Archmodels
Render: Corona
Postproduction: ArionFX and photoshop

I am still not completely satisfied. I had difficulties colorcorrecting the images. Not sure if ArionFx is the best tool for me. I would love to hear comments from you guys so i can improve. Thanks a lot!

(PS i know the closeup shot has horrible spiky displacement on the stones, but i had no time altering it as i needed the images to be put into my portfolio ;-)

Hi guys,

Can someone maybe explain to me  how i can load VFB+ in 3Ds max 2014. I am hearing positive posts on this forum so i wanted to give it a try. But i can't seem to find how to open VFB+ I can only see/render using the Corona VFB. I put the file in the plugins folder, it loaded on startup, but than i can't seem to find it?

Hey Guys,

Maybe a very simple question. But i am struggling to comprehend when to put put a map in the reflection slot or when to put it in the Glossiness slot. For instance a wood or concrete floor. I want the floor to have different refelctions when light falls on it. You can either put a b/w map in the reflection or in the glossiness slot. Both generate a result mimicking the different gloss of the material. You can also use different maps in both slots.

But what is physicallly accurate? When do i use the reflection slot, and when the reflection glossiness? And what are the results using the first or the latter?

[Max] I need help! / Window frame and use of Portals

Hi guys,

I am constructing a scene with a large windowframe next to a courtyard (see attachment). Now i am wondering what kind of portal setup i should use? Should i give each individual glass window its own portal? or should i create one portal for the total surface? Another question, rendering wise, is should i model each window glass itself (multiple small glass objects), or is one glass object just as sufficient?

Hi guys,

I have the following problem. I have three different tree groups. Per group there is an object of leaves, and an object of trunks. I have set a 'materialByElement' modifier for the leavesopbject, set to three id's. I use this in combination with corona multimap set to ID's, to have three different colored leaves in the total tree. I also use further in the Leaves material a corona multimap to add diffference between the trees themselve, using the instance mode.

This works like i want to, but there is a problem when i want to scatter the three trees. Corona Scatter does not seem to work with groups. But i need the trunk and the leaves as different objects, or else my leaf material setup won't work. I attached images of the tree (with modifief selected on the leaves). And a material setup of the leaves.

In a nutshell, i want to use this material setup, resulting in three different colours per tree, and having difference between the instanced trees. And i want to scatter them using Corona Scatter.

Maybe i am totally over complicating this, and maybe my question is not that clear even, but i hope someone will have some thoughtfu linsights ont his matter.

Hi,

Question: is it possible to use a second Corona Scatter as exclude area for the first Corona Scatter? I am aware this can also be done by inverting vertex and use these as area's. But sometimes when i have lots of different scatters, it would be helpfull if i can set another Corona Scatter as excluded area.

Hi!

Just a simple question about the rayswitch material. I would like an object to emit light and only lighting the scene, and be a normal diffuse material to the camera directly. But i can't seem to get it to work if you sou my attachments. If i use a normal diffuse with another color it works. But when i want to have the object emit light, i can't seem to get it to work.

Recently i found somewhere on this forum that it is possible to use camera clipping on coronascatter.
I can't seem to find this again, and i really want to use it. Is this only in the daily builds? or am i overlooking the function?

Hi,

Just a simple question, but i am trying to get a fearly black/antracit lead roofmaterial. But i am having some difficulties getting a dark result. So i thought, start over with the material from scratch.
Now i just want to load in a color with no reflection. When i load in CoronaColor : color of 3, i get the option to check or uncheck "Input values are in linear space"? If i check this, the black turns out nowhere near the color i put in. If i uncheck the color it is really black.

I just wanted to know what setting is correct, i thought checked, but i am not sure.

Hey Guys,

I am wondering if it is possible to also set exclude areas in Corona Scatter? I have some concrete slabs where i don't want the plants to be scattered. As you can see, the grass is now intersecting the objects. I have different corona scatter systems, so i would like to set the exclusion on all of them.

[Max] I need help! / Studio Lighting soft shadows, softbox?

Hey guys,

I need some help setting up nice lighting for a studio setup. The problem i am having is that the lighting isn't creating nice soft shadows, the shadows are to pronounced. I attached the clayrenders, light setup and a screenshot of the scene. I have created a nice soft backdrop plane. I lit the scene using 3 fairly large Arealights. The lighting is composed of two coloured key Arealights, 1x1 m and 2x2 m, Lefty and Right. An additional fill light is placed above the scene, this one is 2x2 m. I vave also loaded a grey color in the environment slot, making the total scene a bit brighter.

In vray I used to use softboxes for arealights, making the shadows a lot smoother . How do i need to set this kind of lighting in Corona. Do i need to make the arealights bigger in dimensions? I would like to keep the sizes of these arealights as close to reality as possible. The dimensions i used in this setup are already a bit too large.

EDIT: I am aware that there are good hdri's available for studio setups, but i really want to be able to control the color and the lighting myself.
