Title: Camera DOF with volumetrics & awesome exterior Lighting
Post by: darrentomkins on 2016-07-09, 21:12:02
Hi Guys, i'm back at teh help desk :s

So I've been trying to get DOF right in my scenes but without using ZDepth passes as I don't fully get how to make the forground out of focus then the mid grond sharp then the background out of focus again. I think doing it with the camera might be easier selecting an object for the focal point?

Theeennnn... I can add volumetric fog in corona and get nice god rays but the image attached has a kick ass sun with great lighting coming between the leaves and on the grass. Is this done just using a diffuse map inthe translucency slot? And how is that sun on the grass so good? Mad!

Any help again would be appreciated by thousands of chameleons smiling down at us from above :D

So I've got my translucency better on leaf edges and volumetric S rolling.  Really like any advice of camera DOF and that image attached. A how to from concept to post would hit a next level pass go collect 200 and land on a ladder smiley star...

Hi Darren

First of all you need to enable DOF in the Scene Tab in Render Settings. Then you need to define the f-number of your cam, I usually do this by adding a CoronaCameraMod to my Standard Camera and set the f-number there. Depending on the focal length of your camera, the DOF will appear greater or shallower in your render. If you have a similar focal length like in your attached image, then for getting a strong DOF effect you need to go down to something like 1.4 or 2.8. Generally it's easier to use long focal lengths to get emphasized DOF.
I hope that helps.

Regards,
Ben

Hi,

-DOF (I don't really see it in the attached image)
https://coronarenderer.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/5000516203
I can also recommend using interactive rendering (https://coronarenderer.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/5000520620) to fine-tune focal point distance, bokeh size, etc

-volumetric fog (I don't really see it in the attached image)

-leaves and grass

-lighting
The sun in the reference image is very very low.
