Title: Brick wall material settings or suggestions
Post by: selant on 2015-10-18, 00:49:02
Whats the best photo realistic way to have a brick wall with 2 colors (including the displacement) for example gaps gray; bricks are the well known fire/orange color.. Would be better to setup the bump as well. How to combine these 3 things in the same corona-material. My result doesnt look good..

I used displacement as bitmap, diffuse as bitmap and the same diffuse bitmap as bump.

To achieve good look of brick material you need to play a bit more with all maps. They has to have variety of diffuse, different edges, non-uniform bump map.

You can achieve pretty good result with 3ds max's tiles map. Attaching basic setup scene. Feel free to experiment with it until you get what you need. Alternatively you can download and install BerconMaps (http://www.ylilammi.com/2013/09/berconmaps/) plugin. Using combination of bercoin tiles, noise and gradient it's possible to get much better results than with native 3ds max's tools.

You can also model the tiles, or use a script such as free Floor Generator https://cg-source.com/floorgenerator.php (afaik it only works on horizontal surfaces so you would have to create the outline of the tiled area on the floor, and then rotate it after creation).
