I have problems with displacement ,the edge is serrated and it has some imperfections on the flat part even if the map has only 2 tones and is in high resolution .
i need smoth edge.
I installed the daily build of 1.3 13 2015 .
I saw a video demonstration of the features of version 1.3 in youtube , in video i saw for displacement modifier a option called adaptive , but in my last version not found.
at this link there is map i have used , and max files.
attach map files and max
tks

I saw a big improvement by using 16bit images. Maybe that could help you.

I come from vray , whit vray displacement mod I've never had problems with these maps.
attach render in vray whit same map.

It's not very fare to compare 100px Vray vs 2000px Corona picture. If you rescale first picture to match with second one, you'll see that Corona's result is perfectly smooth :] Or you can render it bigger with Vray and most likely you'll see same artefacts, which is caused by jpeg compression and by to sharp contrast between black and white colours in your map. You may want to read this post to see how you can improve displacement map right inside 3ds max: https://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php/topic,9728.msg62381.html#msg62381

BTW: the first post renders almost certainly show JPEG compression artifacts in the height map...

About a displacement adaptivity ?
in the last daily build not found.

There most certainly are problems with displacement also in Vray if you use a 8 bit jpg. It´s the same with every renderer, a 16bit image gets rid of this "stepping" problem you are facing.. Always use 16bit for displacement :)

Adaptivity is there, but UI was changed. In newest builds adaptivity is always enabled and cannot be disabled by user. Same goes for keep edges together.
