Title: [solved] Noise - problem
Post by: rodrigoavicennte on 2015-09-25, 22:48:51
Hi

Now eased a bit here at work I decided to study the Corona a bit more.

But I must have a problem because I can never make a surrender without noise.

The image below has the following characteristics:

Resolution 1000x667px
Render time: approx. 8 minutes

My pc:

I7- 3930K
16GB Ram

3ds max 2014
And original corona in the latest version.

The scene is very simple.  There is a base material with medium gray (128).
The windows has a glass material with Thin option enable

There is only one light in the scene Corona Sun.
There are four planes on the windows and one on the door with a Corona Portal Material

The Albedo this all ok.

Settings standard Corona (everyone says is so pressing in yield without changing the settings)

PT + UHD Cache

GI vs AA: 16
LSM: 2
MSI 20
Max ray depth: 25

128 pass

The result was below:

Much noise.

Can anyone give me a light? I really want to migrate from vray for corona and begin to put it into production.

Thank you

1 do you use portals?
2 can you share albedo pas?

What does it look like when rendering to 200 passes? 128 is a bit low for interiors. You can also render a direct and indirect pass to see where the noise comes from. (https://coronarenderer.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/5000516731) and change LSM depending on the result (https://coronarenderer.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/5000515640).

Good Luck!

Hi Frood,

This is the new test I did now using 200 pass. I did not see significant improvement.

Also follow the elements (direct, indirect and albedo)

Thank you

Hello, I can see you submitted a support ticket about this, but you are not responding there.

Hi guys

I did a test following Maru´s recommendations.

GIvsAA 32, LMS 4, MSI 10

I deleted the portal door and created a large portal at the top of the building.

I liked the result.

30min time with only 100pass

What do you think?

That's perfect!)

What do you think?

Yes, nice!. Except those high contrast jagged edges (table in the front). I never know how to handle such areas correctly.

Good Luck!

Rendering in higher resolution would definitely help. ;)

Sure it helps but this is not "correctly" in my understanding :)

Good Luck!

Draw a diagonal line that won't be aliased on a 10x10 grid. ;)
Maybe internal resolution = 2 would help here.

Maru, can you explain why you suggested to delete the door portal and create a large portal at the top of the building ?

Because there shouldn't be any "obstacles" behind the portals. I do not know the tech behind it, but even Ondrej said there is no way to be 100% sure if portal will speed things up or not, you just have to try it. And comparing different configurations is not very time-consuming. You can select a region, or render only a few passes. Placing the portal in the door frame would be pretty much like in this example, only more extreme:
https://corona-renderer.com/stuff/helpdesk/portals/howto/room_portal_inside_wrong.jpg

and it should be like this:

Thank you for your quick reply. You're that best mod i've ever seen :D

I've read the article. but i still don't understand why he said he place a large portal at the top of building.
If i dont mistake, the portal supposed to place at the hole (with perfectly capping).

Oh, sorry, I did not notice you are not OP. There was a big "window" at the top of this building. I probably can't share the file. There was something like an "atrium" in that building, and light was coming through the top, and then bouncing everywhere, also into that room through the door. It made more sense to place portal in the top opening, than in the door.
