I have https://www.asus.com/ROG-Republic-Of-Gamers/RAMPAGE_IV_FORMULA/specifications/ mobo.
Currently i have 12gb ram 3x4gb. One dimm is broken, before had 16gb. All is running in triple channel.
I am going to buy additional 2x8gb (other type). Can i run 2x4gb + 2x8gb in duall channel or smth on this x79 mobo?

Just makes sure the voltages, ideally timings too, are same. I think you should be able to run it in dual channel the way you describe,
but foremost, you don't even have to, as it makes almost no difference today to performance.

Thx for reply. I read some time ago there is no difference between 2,3 or quadra channel, but i thought there is difference between single channel and rest. Or I am wrong?:)

It is, but it's probably negligible in most tasks outside of hard crunching. Shouldn't make almost any difference to rendering.

In what way is the dimm broken.? just curious..is it actually cracked or just not registering the ram in the slot.

Dont remember, blue screens or errors in aplications. Checked with memtest. One of 4 gives errors. When i want replace one, I must send all 4. So waste of time.
