Title: opacity map behind glass becomes transparent
Post by: higgledyhiggles on 2015-07-07, 19:07:47
hi,
using alpha 0.6... i think it happened in 1.1 as well although demo ran out. it`s been a while since i played with corona.
basically in front of glass an opacity mapped object is visible like you`d expect, solid where the map is white. behind glass object it becomes transparent, you can see objects through the solid part of the map.
attached a jpg.

i`m probably making a rookie mistake or it`s a known thing...be gentle.

Can you show material setups for both objects?
Did you use any switch in object properties like "cast shadows" or "visible to camera"?

nope, same object just moved in front of the glass. opacity map in a corona output map.

weird, loaded it this morning and while it`s still not wotking right it`s different, although even though refraction isn`t enabled on the opacity mapped object its kind of the look i was going for..frosted.

attached image with object behind glass/ in front/frost texture/glass texture. frost map is a psd with alpha.

ok even wierder. stuck a teapot behind the object and it goes odd. opacity3.jpg - IOR 1.3 left with IOR at 1.0 right.
ah, ok, turn on `thin(no refraction) and it looks how it should. is that how it should be done then ? shouldn`t refraction work also ?

I am still not sure what is going on here. Could you make step by step instructions how to recreate it? I would check it in newest version as it doesn't make much sense to test A6.
Also, why are you using corona output for opacity? Does anything change if you delete corona output and place the bitmap directly?

sorry, had to work...
my time limit expired for 1.1, i think i installed it quite  a while ago then got distracted so it expired.

i`m using corona output because the opacity map doesn`t work without it. it renders mostly solid, a faint outline around where the alpha should be. does this in a fresh scene too. the map is a psd floating layer.

not sure if i can recreate it, it`s a vray converted scene, maybe that`s the reason it behaves odd ? the windows are just splines and extrudes and as in the image it works fine in front of the glass just not behind.

Can you provide any scene where this problem happens?
