Title: Animation setup
Post by: Aldoren on 2015-07-03, 21:22:46
Hi

I was wondering if i could get some general tips on my animation setup.

Im creating an animation in 1280x720, now, should i render directly to movie format or do i render frame by frame and create the movie afterwards, is there a prefered or correct workflow here? Also, how do i keep the movie size down so 60 seconds dont become like 600 mb without loosing image quality?

I did a test render and saved directly to .avi, the outputfile however came out as 720x480, 6 seconds, 23 mb. The image became compressed somehow?

Sorry for any misspelling.

Anyone wanna share? :)

Always save each frame to single bitmap and stitch them afterwards. There are lots of workflows depending on your needs. If it's nothing fancy (no masking, passes, etc planned), you can pick some compressed format for the frames if you do not need exr or super fine quality. The animation will probably lose some quality when saving in video format anyway. About file size - I am not sure if you are referring to the saved images or final film, but if it's film, then pick a good codec, like xvid or mp4. These are my tips, more experienced users would probably have more to say.

We no longer use freshdesk, the link is old. All articles are moved over to https://support.chaos.com/hc/en-us - e.g. this one is now at https://support.chaos.com/hc/en-us/articles/4528617365649-How-to-use-the-UHD-Cache-for-animations-and-stills-in-Corona-for-3ds-Max-
