Title: Ao as bump question
Post by: dasnico on 2015-06-21, 14:46:23
Hi,

I would like to have some bump detail on the edges but we all know the ao map doesn't work in the bump slot
Is there another way to get this to work?

I am not sure what your goal is but try advanced options > rounded corners. You can put a map in "radius".

First of all thank you for your time!

well I have the white area (the base) and the coat area.  I would like to give the coat a bit of depth, its too flat at the moment. so I was thinking to put the same AO/dirt map  with inverted normal checked (to get the scratched part only at the edges like )

in the bump slot. but it doesn't work.

I often dream of a "bake" or "pre-comp" node (like in AE) for baking procedural textures to a bitmap right inside the Material Editor. That would be great. Of course you'd need UVs then.

You could switch almost every procedural in 3dsmax from object/world 3d space to UV space. Procedural size needs to be switched to something way under 1.0 because UV space is 0.0 - 1.0 to make it usable.
