Title: Translucent rubber
Post by: naikku on 2015-06-17, 10:34:05
I would like to get some advice / help on this.
I am modelling a synthesizer with these drum pads and I would like to put a small led under those pads.
I cant seem to get the balance right (light vs translucency).

How would you guys make the material for the rubber and the light properties?
Here is a reference:

Thanks for all the help :)

Added: And also, should the led under the pad be a sphere or just a disc?

Here is what I did for a small round button (in the rendering HDRI output is at 0.05, exposure 0, high compr 1).
The light is a 1mm disc, intensity 10.

BUT still my question would be: HOW would you guys make something like this?

Its a thing of "try and error" i guess.
Maybe a bit SSS could be useful also.

As light shape for your lightsource i would suggest a disk.
i see no need for a 360 degree light emitting.

i hope i could help a bit.

I believe it is a matter of using proper IOR, refraction glossiness and/or translucency. Trial and error - as mentioned above. IR could be very helpful!
About the light color - there was a trick to use CoronaColor map inside CoronaLightmtl and adjust HDR values. You can see it here: https://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php/topic,999.msg12726.html#msg12726 (CoronaSolid = CoronaColor now)
