Interesting concept. I don't remember seeing anything like this in any car commercial. This reminds me of this guy who made this animation

and then they hired him to create similar effect in some tv ad (can't find it). So who knows. :)

I don't think there are thinking particles involved here, it was just an example of how clever ideas can make you recognizable. :)
I think it's just something like melt+optimize with reversed time.
