[Max 2016, Corona 1.00.02]
I don't know if it's me but it seems that when you set the sun to the zenith (0°) it doesn't render at all. Can anyone confirm?
Btw, why does the sun display its angle over the horizon in the opposite way of what's common? Shouldn't it be 0° - ground level, 90° - zenith?
-
is it possible that the sun is present, just very dim? You can test it by removing all other lights and doing test render
-
I'll test it but it definitely looked like it's not contributing at all, being present again at 1 degree.
Will have a look tomorrow.
is this an expected limitation? 0 or 1 degree doesn't make that much of a difference but it seemed like a bug to me.
-
It should work, just with very faint contribution

Just to make sure, I'm not talking about sun's contribution at the horizon but at the zenith. If you meant the zenith in your reply above, why would the sun be faint if it's high up? Is this a limitation?

Max2015 here, everything works fine for me. Checked with Corona sun and Max's daylight system. With skylight and without. Just asking to make sure, you are not placing sun like this? (below compass)
-
Thanks for stepping in, Maru. I just tested on a fresh scene and found the bug.
Sun at zenith (0°) will not render when Color is set 'Realistic' mode AND 'Textured' is checked. It will render fine when 'Textured' is disabled.

Confirmed. Happens with realistic+textured.
