Since the current Corona logo was just a temporary quick sketch, I will need a new one. A friend made some a few proposals, and I would like to know your opinion on them:
_edit: voting is over, we have settled on new design (on page 2)
-
A mix of 3 and 7 maybe, with a preference for 7.
I like the general appearance of 7, simple and good. Well done!
-
maybe making diffrent fonts would be good too
-
4... mmm.
The Foundry bought Corona? )
-
7 looks the most polished, 2 looks funky but what is it meant to be?
-
Are you sure about the colors?
-
3 is the best.
Corona is about light and speed. You have these components in this logo, love it !
-
I think number 2 is more appropriate, can be made the colors of it?
Number 7 - resembles logo an apple)).
Num 3 - resembles the sign man/woman)) maybe turned circle to the other side?
-
No one liked. But old logo looks very good
-
I like third one I think... but gray scaled, with borders, more contrast and a little glow :D
-
third is best. maybe a litle glow
-
4.

this looks really great, but it is unusable as a logo :/ - it wont work on non-black background

I understand, the point however is that although you picked nice designs, almost all logos makes it look like you're part of "the foundry"... especially 4th one. logo designs are all nice but IMHO(i'm no logo designer) you should pick a color not necessarily associated to any part of CG business or go with the black and white and then go figuring the shapes that'l work for that color or gray scale.
People usually tend to avoid black and white logos/design stuff and force colorful shit when they do not want to look intimidating for the user, but I believe this is exactly what you should go for, because corona is a simple tool yet to be developed so you don't need to attract attention with nice colors that'l say don't be afraid to use this, you should go the opposite way reinforcing the beast that corona is "under the hood" you know, intimidate the competition by design :D just a thought... There's nothing to be afraid of, corona is not multinational multicultural corporation that a bad logo could make people turn away especially if it is so good in essence... experiment and if needed, rebrand...
-
I would rather avoid messing these up in PS as these are not done by me or Ondra, but by a professional 2D designer. ;)
Also, color is still a subject to possible change and orange is rather a random choice, so you should focus on shapes rather than colors ;)

If I'm being honest, none of the logos in the first post stand out to me. That's just me though and I know my opinion is just a grain of sand on the beach. I kind of like the first one in your last post though.
Yellow/orange colors I think would work well for your logo based on stuff like this: http://www.usabilitypost.com/2008/09/29/a-guide-to-choosing-colors-for-your-brand/ (http://www.usabilitypost.com/2008/09/29/a-guide-to-choosing-colors-for-your-brand/)

corona mean a crown so why not something that relie crown gold diamond and GI or fast rendering solution.

corona means crown, but also plasma atmosphere around sun is called a corona and that logo does seem to represent just that... in a "foundry" way...

In my opinion none of the images listed in this topic can be considered a good contemporary logo. I would even say that the current logo is much better than some of the new ones posted here. I would suggest doing some research on modern logotypes, here is a GREAT website with lots of inspiring stuff:
http://designspiration.net/tag/logo/
You can clearly see nowadays minimalism and geometric shape is the key to good graphic identification. Even big companies tend to remove as much as they can to make logos super informative and eye catching at the same time. Here are some examples, some better, some worse but it illustrates a trend that governs modern branding:
http://www.rebrandblog.pl/
(sorry, Polish only, but it's the images that counts)
The only one that is usable is 2.png from first post but the font is terrible.
In my opinion a logo is EXTREMELY important and should be picked very carefully. Of course you can chose a unique logo without following modern rules but it's risky. Picking a bad one can force you to changing it and changing logos doesn't do much good to company's reputation.
How about an open competition? Even without prizes.

and if like this?)

No, it's cheap, ugly, and not usable as a logo.

ok, thanks for feedback. We have decided to use the first (or maybe last) one from this image:

Why not keep the "temporary" one? I like it. And besides, a logo is only what you made of it, marketing wise. On its own, it means nothing. :)
-
I actually like the first and last ones from the image above Keymaster posted. It also seems suitable for a material test object like this one from LuxRender:

They look more like the Foundry logo plugins !

I totaly agree i wanted to say it, maybe optimizing it a little bit, but the simplicity of the font and the nice circular effects makes you feel a serious logo...
-
I like the first one of the new set, but I do like the original one.
cheers
-
From those 4 - last one.
-
From those 4 - last one.
+1. fourth variant
but maybe I would have changed font to more simple
-
My vote goes to the 1st one of the recent 4.
-
I like the temporary one too. I like the way the graphic part is cut and how typo is smaller than graphics, there is something catchy in it. Here are some quick photoshoppages of how maybe the two ideas could be combined.
-
this burning crescent not remind you of pacman?
-
I too like the 4th one in the second set.
-
I would choose number 1 of the last four.
Maybe we try to present their options? I am personally very interested in it!
-
dont want to be negative.. but kind i like more the original onw.. maybe with colour.
Can I ask for the origin of the name?
-
It's simple - Korona is the currency of Czech Republic. ;)
-
when i read corona two things come to my mind plus the maru comment.
Maybe this help....
-
It's actually koruna :D
-
Ok since there is no more suggestion i vote for the 1st one from the last 4, i like the yellow cube with sun inside it.
-
Don't like no one.
Voted for 3
-
Visually 3 or 4 best view
