Title: Project - Apartment
Post by: daniel.reutersward on 2015-04-06, 17:24:01
Hi,

This is my latest personal project.

This project started with inspiration from stylist Hans Blomquist but was changed slowly to my own interior design.

Nice images, mind sharing floor material setup with bitmap examples, that scratches looks nice, but could be more subtle imho.

Always reminds me of Bertrand's quote I always follow: (something like this) "I set it where I like (how it looks), then scale it back by 50perc."

Looks really good btw ! Esp. the carpet (would buy if you were to sell it). Perhaps time to find some different subject though :- )

I love the composition of all the elements, and lighting looks super!

Lovely! Nice lightning, nice mood. Would also love to see how that carpet was made...was it hair and fur?
Cheers

@Juraj - I did few similiar carpets. Its not that hard...just play with hair-fur :)

@daniel - Images are very good. I really like that subtle diffuse light and contrast between gray and white.

Only thing which is bothering me is that i miss "lines" between planks which is typical for herringbone floors. Its too perfect now even with that scratch map :)

Thanks guys! :)

I remember that quote from Bertrand, it´s a good quote!

that scratches looks nice, but could be more subtle imho.

I actually did change the floor 2-3 times mostly reducing the scratches since I thought it was a bit too much.
Here you can see what image inspired me for this project and the floor is even dirtier than mine! :)

The carpet is hair and fur, however I had this carpet in my model database and if I recall correctly I bought it for a commercial project to save time. I could check and see if I can dig up the link to the exact carpet :)

Perhaps time to find some different subject though :- )

I agree! From the beginning the new project were going to be an exterior, but I changed my mind. Next project will be something different though. I´m thinking of doing some exterior, just have to find the right project/inspiration :)

If these were in one of those "is it real or CG?" challenges I would probably get them wrong :)

Nice Renders!
The Ektorp sofa looks very good, have you modelled yourself or bought it somewhere? If yes, I would like to know where you've bought it then.

Fantastic visuals as usual :) what is your lighting set up?

Thanks guys! :)

The scene is lit with an HDRI as usual, but for (almost) the first time I had to use portals.

Brilliant Work , Daniel !

I also saw it on Behance.
Absolutely live lighting. ...

Would love to see a raw render, before the post.

Best regards,

Is that highlights=1 ?

Yes, highlight compression is at 1,0. Is something wrong? :)

No.

Ok that´s good. I just remembered I was suppose to get back to you regarding the carpet, sorry about that. I´ll look in to it asap!

It looked surprisingly very good in 1.0, hence I asked if it wasn't perhaps 1.2 or something :- )

Mine when set to full linear often look like nuclear image (not only highlights but saturation, contrast, heh). Just nasty.

Post by: daniel.reutersward on 2015-04-09, 20:55:17
I see :) Yes, usually it looks like a nuclear bomb went off, but it perhaps has something to do with the dark walls and floor, I have no idea :)

Jeeeeezzzz Daniel are You serious? 9 hours on your current ten zillion cores mashine? What was the resolution?

Anyway great job as always....:)

I WISH I had ten zillion cores! :D I don´t know why but I have had trouble with noise and render times lately, perhaps I´m doing something wrong... They were rendered at a resolution of about 4000x3000px. And thank you! :)

Actually I know exactly how many cores you have at the moment that's why I'm surprised :). I would rather expect 90 minutes than 9 hours especially on your current mashine!

A previous project took about 3 hours to render and suddenly the projects takes about 3 times that time, don´t know why but I´m trying to solve it :)

As you know ultra hi res textures can increase render times, as well as displacement but in this case it's quite mysterious to me. What was your corona setup at final stage? (was it default?)

No displacement was used but I always use high-res textures without any significant problems. I don´t remember exactly but I think GI/AA set to 32 and using portals.

hopefully these problems will disappear once CoronaBitmap is implemented ;)

Hi Daniel, Awesome images as usual :) one question, how do you make the light bulbs?
I have tried puting corona mat with self ilumination on the filament , and on the bulb itself but it doesnt work either way. Any tip on how to do it correctly?
Or is more photoshop for it??
Thx man

I´m not even sure I´m doing it correctly! :) But if I remember correctly I used a CoronaLightMtl for the lightbulbs and "Thin (No refraction)" for the glass.
