Title: composite materials wtih 2 or more materials
Post by: pmcf1981 on 2015-03-20, 18:54:49
hi guys

is possible to make a composite having two or more materials ? I am trying to create a glass over has some chrome strips ..
the possibility of making composite of several materials in layers ?

something like the image attached ...

I was curious if it's possible to create such material and this is what I came up with. Not a very elegant solution but I think it works.

You can also use blend material to achieve this, one material is chrome and and is glass and mask is the black and white stripes.

I thought this should be avoided as blend material + refraction = trouble, but it seems to work fine (or even better?) unless you enable refraction for the second material. Thanks for the idea. :)

maru can you show us how do you make the material or you use blend?

thks for the tip:)

I guess Maru has created blend material containing glass material, metal material and mask?

Its really simple, make blend material there are only two slots available for two corona materials, and 3rd slot is the mask to mix the two materials.  I use blend material all the time when I need simple mix between two materials.

In this case I used gradient ramp (switched linear to solid so it has solid lines).

Yes, this is exactly how I did this.

ok realized ... and if we need a more complex material we can use blend within blend giving the possibility to use several layers mask materials

very cool :) thks

You mean like standard blend material?

We have CoronaLayeredMtl for this now. ;)

Hi Maru,

I would also like to use the  CoronaLayeredMtl but can't seem to find it in the Material Browser. Is this function only implemented in the daily builds? I use the v1.2 hotfix 1.

Yes, it's only in daily builds for now.

Does anyone know, is the new CoronaLayeredMtl faster than the standard Blend material?

I have a number of materials that are using blend from an older version of Corona and there would be no benefit to me putting these into a CoronaLayeredMtl, as it's just 2 different materials blending, no more than that... unless it is faster.

2 materials will be the same speed, 3+ is better in layered mtl instead of chaining blend mtls.

Great thanks. If I have to blend through another material I will switch to Corona Layered. With any new projects it will be Corona Layered from the start.
