Title: Sample cloud scene
Post by: maru on 2015-03-20, 11:19:51
Hello,

Here is an example cloud scene for Max 12-15:
https://corona-renderer.com/stuff/helpdesk/example-cloud.zip

How it was done:
1. Created a geosphere (in my opinion it behaves better with displacement as polygons are distributed uniformly)
2. Modified it slightly - FFD for a flatter base and stretched top
3. Added displacement modifier with a bigger noise map to add some bumps and humps to the model
4. Created a Corona material, added smaller noise as displacement to it - for smaller scale details
5. Enabled  absorption and scattering and tuned it to make it look like steam

If you want to recreate it from scratch, remember to use proper object size and absorption distance. If you for example resize the cloud from the sample scene, it will look completely different. I hope it's useful for people who want to start experimenting with SSS. :)
