Title: DR render problems
Post by: gabrielefx on 2015-03-01, 18:25:44
Hi
I'm testing the latest 1.0 Corona demo
I installed it on two workstations both with 3ds Max 2014
I authorized the demo on both. I started a render locally and it was fine.
I installed DrServer on both machines (to be sure)
I din't installed the LicenseServer because I'm running the demo on both machines.

I started DrServer on the second workstation.
I pressed search LAN button, Max found the right DR machine ip.
DrServer accepted the connection on ports UDP19666, TCP 19668, loopback TCP19667
Max started to render only locally, no pass was passed from the DR Node.

This is the log:

Hi,
this looks like this problem: https://coronarenderer.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/5000539776-distributed-rendering-does-not-work-unknown-error-while-loading-application-

Hi,
I found the problem!
I installed the latest version of Backburner 2014...uninstalling the old one (2012)
I rendered one frame locally with Server and Manager on (I don't know if it's important) to see if Backburner was installed good.
The test pass was ok.

I launched the Corona Renderer DrServer...and it finally worked!!!

Will use this thread instead of creating another one.
Having exactly the same issue though in my case BackBurner is 2014. Exactly the same thing in Logs and transfered scene file has 0 size always. If i am rendering this without backburner - everything's perfect. Licenses installed and it is working. Any ideas about that ?

Have you tried with the newest version of DrServer? (just replace the .exe everywhere)

Thanks for such fast reply !
I installed it and got a new line in Maxlog file :

13/03/2015 14:36:30;  Camera CAM DK s31 est defined but not found
13/03/2015 14:36:30;  Error rendering frame 0: Camera CAM DK s31 est defined but not found
13/03/2015 14:36:30;  Send End of Job command to Max
13/03/2015 14:36:31;  Job Completed with Error(s) - see above

update : it was vray camera with corona mod on top , i converted it to free camera with corona mod on top - this message disappeared , though i am back where i was before - the same error opening thing...

Hmm.. Are you using the same version of Backburner and Max (BB2014 and Max2014) everywhere? Do you have any other version of BB installed anywhere?
Title: Re: DR render problems
Post by: olejka2k on 2015-03-13, 16:19:06
Yep , 2014 - 2014 , and it's only 2 PC's. If i am starting that without BB - it works perfectly.
UP : one thing may be important i think - when i am rendering from BB i have this line
13/03/2015 15:17:47;  Renderer:
it is empty , when locally - it is CoronaRenderer written there.

And you have Corona installed and activated on both PCs?
Does local rendering work on both PCs?
Sorry for the stupid questions but they sometimes help. :)

Post by: olejka2k on 2015-03-13, 16:37:38
haha no worries at all
sure network works and license is activated on both (i have activation file used.txt on both) , and if i start render from another PC without BB - they are picking up the scene perfectly and rendering without any troubles. When it comes to BB - nothing there.
Let me explain scheme of how i am working.

I have workstation , lets call it WS , and there are rendernodes (RN1 and RN2) , on one of them there is backburner server started (on RN1) and on RN2 i have corona distributed started. So when i am sending a job RN1 is picking it up and rendering , but RN2 (the distributed one) is not rendering - gives error. And exactly the same thing vise versa - BB server on RN2 is picking scene perfectly , while distributed on RN2 gives error.
Though if i am rendering from WS without sending job to BB - they both with DR turned on - render perfect.
Hope that is clear enough , it's a bit messy explanation , sorry for that.

Do you have the same version of Max with the same updates (service packs) installed on all of the PCs? There was an issue where this helped.

Yeap its everywhere the same. Tried to start BB server on WS and distributed on RN1 and RN2 - still the same thing.

Some more information about that is that VRay DR is working perfectly in exactly the same way as i'm trying to make Corona work , that should exclude plugins , versions and such things.

Hi maru,

having some problems with the DR as well.

I jsut tried to overwrite with the new DR, and i get this message now..

I managed to make it working once, but half of the image was dark as the attachment.
i can't make it working since 2 days, going crazy..

hi,
that last message means that some other application is running at the same port - posibly another instance of the DR server. Try looking for it in the task manager

Ondra , any idea about my problem ? Really want to use corona but this problem kills that in root.. :(

Guys sorry to bump this again but we really want to resolve this. I've tested this on another completely different PC's on another network not related to those ones - the problem still is there. And looks that thing is that it cannot find renderer. The "renderer" row is empty in MaxLog when i am rendering via BackBurner. If i will have some time i will test it with Deadline free version but i am pretty sure that it should be fine , as this is BackBurner related , and i want to use this with BackBurner.

Just as a hint: In our network in a similar setup like described by olejka2k here in this thread as reply #9 (https://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php/topic,7229.msg49866.html#msg49866) the problem seems to be that a dr slave when used as a BB-Job-slave does not even receive the scene to render ("received_scene_[hash]" in drData directory).

This leads to the "Camera [cam_name_here] defined but not found" entry in drData\MaxLog.txt. At least here it´s reproducable. Maybe it´s the same problem.

And maybe it´s the same issue described by fobus in this post (https://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php/topic,7145.msg49496.html#msg49496) without going deeper into detail or checking logfiles.

Good luck!

Thanks for the hint, Frood. And yes you are correct - scene is not being transferred, it has 0 size. Though i solved the "Camera [cam_name_here] defined but not found" thing by making Free camera with Corona mod on top (it was VRayCamera with mod on top) and this line disappeared , though main problem was not solved.

That´s more than I can achieve here, drServer doesn´t even create any max file in drData :/ I will submit that to the Bugtracker when I find some time to test some remaining options.

Good luck!

Hi, first please take a look at this guide if you haven't done it already and check some of the suggested solutions:
https://coronarenderer.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/5000501666
If nothing helps, please do this:
Quote
completely remove the content of DrData folder, run unsuccessful rendering again, and then send us the freshly-created log files
And send us a support ticket with the content of DrData:
https://coronarenderer.freshdesk.com/support/tickets/new

We are also working on an extensive DR fix, which should solve most known problems.

Just I very very minor suggestion - I had the same problem with DR before:
I saw that from my 3ds max asset tracking, some bitmaps had only a file name but not a folder where they are.
This made my DR-images become "striped", 30% darker etc.. After I fixed the paths: no problems.

I use Gamma 2.2on my workstation and in my farm computers there is just 3ds max & corona 1.2.1 installed, I havent started 3ds max there and I havent played with the gamma controls on them.
But is it possible that if my workstation sends a DR-file to the farm computers, could they somehow be rendering with Gamma 1? (When I had the stripe-problem I wrote about it and someone said to check the Gamma values...)
