Title: render crash
Post by: mattman on 2015-02-25, 21:09:07
Maybe something I am doing wrong but here goes, installed 1.0. Opened 7.2 scene, go to camera and render. All good its rendering. Go to perspective viewport and change view, hit render again and max crashes.

I tried with running conversion script change legacy mode off and on same result.

Is there something that I need to do to bring my old 7.2 scenes forward to 1.0?

Thanks!

best,
Matt

Further testing, it does not seems to matter what scene, for instance 7.2 scenes I was rendering yesterday. Render once, stop render. Render again, crash.

I've just installed my workstation and rendernodes to 1.0, I've opened two 7.2 scenes and rendered them twice and 20 times, without problems.

Hm, not sure what it is. Fresh scene plane and box. One light, render a couple of times fine. Then open material editor - crash max. Have been running corona rock steady for about 8 months to a year? No problem, these are infact the first render related crashes I have had...

Will try a restart and see if that does it.

Anyway, super crashy right now, restarted machine. Open scene, render a couple of times, open material editor, its OK, then get new material, max crash. If anyone has any ideas that would be great. Will test on some other computers. - If it helps I am running Max 2014

Hi,
can you send me some of the minidumps 3ds max generates upon crash? You can see their location when you click on "view details" on the 3dsmax CER screen, and I can analyze them to find out what is wrong

Hi Ondra, that would be much appreciated, that was my main render station :( I'll have to roll back to 7.2. Anyway I would appreciate any input that would be great.

Best,
Matt

Can you create the dump again using this new 1.00.01 build? https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx

thanks

Hi Ondra, thanks for being there!

I hope I created the dump in the correct way, when max crashed I right clicked on the service for 3dsmax and said create mini dump. Hope thats what you wanted. I will also attach the max dump as well. This was with the 1.01 build.

thanks!

Best,
Matt

Dear Ondra,

I was able to recreate the crash on a different machine. Lenovo dual xenon 2.8 8 core windows 8.1. I opened a previous 7.2 scene that rendering fine - different one from the previous crash. I render with the camera view. Then move to perspective, hit the render button and crash. Please see the attached dump file.

Thanks!

Best,
Matt

Im beginning to think that its windows 8.1 specific. My other three windows 7 boxes don't crash only the two 8.1 boxes....

ok, I will try it on a win8 machine later...

Does it crash on render start, or render end? It seems all the crashes are at render end. Is interactive rendering involved?
Title: Re: render crash
Post by: mattman on 2015-03-01, 23:04:16
Interactive is not involved. Just regular render window.

I render from the perspective window, let it run for a bit then cancel, then move around in the viewport and render again. Then cancel after a few passes. Then on this third or sometimes second render it crashes upon hitting the render button.

I have also noticed crashes while getting materials eg - from the material editor, get material, scroll down to corona material, it seems like as it is rendering the small previews it crashes.

I have also experienced interactive crashes but I tried with and without interactive started and I get the same crash.

Hope that helps!

Best,
Matt

Ondra, I heeded your call for coffee money and purchased two licenses for a year with 13 slaves :) I used our purchasers credit card so the name on the account in your system is Jules Kaizer but it has my email on it as is linked to my profile here. Please feel free to change the Jules Kaizer name to Matthew Pearse if you are able. Are there any daily builds you want me to try to sort out the crashing problem?
BTW, I love your thank you message that you send when someone makes a purchase, I think highly of the Corona team as well!

Best,
Matt

Thanks ;) but for security reasons, I cannot make any changes in orders, unless they are requested using the email address for which the licenses were purchased. If you want the name changed, please contact me at ondra@corona... using the email you entered during checkout.

I will work more on solving the crashes at the end of the week.
Ondra

Title: Re: render crash
Post by: Ondra on 2015-03-17, 22:49:52
ok, I know where it crashes, but I still dont know why it enters that portion of code. It would be best to do a debugging session sometimes
Title: Re: render crash
Post by: Ondra on 2015-03-17, 23:00:11
or before the session, could you please do this:
locate files: CoronaMax2014_log.txt and CoronaMax2014_interactive.txt somewhere in C:/Users (use windows/totalcmd search function), and send them to me?

Here you go.

note to self: unknown exception pops out, render handler is not exception-safe
Title: Re: render crash

Hi Ondra, I got this message:

File: C:\Corona\src\CoronaMax/core/Context.h
Line: 29
Condition: corona

Mini dump attached

Post by: Ondra on 2015-03-18, 09:42:15
ok, this is what I expected, and it should be fixed in the latest daily. But the exception will still pop out (but hopefully without crashing), so we need to also debug that.

hi,
what is the status? have you tried the latest build? It is possible it will help you.

Hi Ondra, no crashes since our debugging session! Deleting the prefs file in users blag blah did the trick for both machines!

Matt

Hi there

I've exactly the same problem... max crashes when I move in perspective/orto view and then go to my camera view. Corona wants to start rendering and immediatley crashes.

Could you maybe tell us what you've made to solve this problem in your skype session?

Many, many thanks!
