New Maxwell Render feature that would be awesome in Corona.
"Extra Sampling
Often when you render an image, residual noise is concentrated in certain areas of the scene due their particular lighting and material characteristics. With the new Extra Sampling feature, you can now define a specific area of your image to be rendered to a higher sampling level than the rest – putting all the render power to the areas where it is most needed, rendering smarter and saving a huge amount of time."

no.
sorry but... NO.
That's the worst "adaptive" solution I have ever seen. You could even do something like that with a bit of scripting... but seriously, do you want to do that all the time? Adaptivity should be fully automatic on pixel level, not with some manual alpha texture region.
-
Yep... adaptivity first... only in case it did not help, then this. And this solution can be implemented a lot better, using a simple brush in real time - like raybrush in iRay or Follow mouse cursor in progressive mode of Vray 3. Loading some pre-made masks is truly ridiculous workflow.
-
I thought the same. This is something that proper adaptivity should handle. It looks horribly awkward to use.
If only Corona could compare noise information from previous and next passes... :)
-
Well I don't really care how it's implemented, I just see the need for something along these lines.
I have never, and never will use Maxwell Render so.. just an example.

there is actually a thread for this: https://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php/topic,678.0.html
