Am I the only one who's material editor is very slow with Corona...1st : my material preview quality is set to the default value (1). Every time I open the mat editor, 3ds max goes ''not responding'' for a few seconds, then all my mats get put in a render queue...it takes many many seconds until I can do something. I don't have a super duper pc (i7 2600k, gtx 670, 8gb ram) but I've never experienced that with any other renderer. Am I doing something wrong? My scene has like 30 materials in total.
Thanks!

I am using 3ds Max 2015 and works fine. Sometimes if I have loads of maps it can take a few seconds to render the maps. What version are you using?
-
2014
-
Is this Alpha 7.2 or a daily build? If it's Alpha, you probably have to wait for the final version, if it's a daily build, post a proper report in the bug section with the build number.
-
I need to mention that I am using the daily builds, but even when I was using 2014 with Alpha 7.2 everything worked fine.
-
Please report this with the daily build timestamp you're using, there were similar reports and it would be good to have this one fixed for good. Make sure you also test the latest build and see if it's better if you're not using it already.
-
I am using the stable 7.2 version with 3ds max 2014.
-
Is it with all scenes or with one particular scene? Does 3ds max has latest service pack installed?
-
I've only ever had mat editor speed issues with a crappy/bad video card. Had them all the time at work with a Firepro 5000, switched to the Quadro 600 and all was fine. I usually change everything (on the mat selector menu at least) to text only to avoid any potential further slowdowns.
-
I'm on an old i3 370m laptop with integrated Intel HD video chip, Max 2014 and I've never experienced any serious lags with mat editor. I guess this must be something system-specific like windows updates, graphic drivers or Max service pack...
-
I might have done something incredibly stupid which is probably causing this. I scattered a lot of instances with multiscatter, but the models were not proxies. I'l still do some further testing to see if it's that!

This is not problem at all.
-
scene complexity should not influence material editor speed. If you can create a scene where material editor gets slower just because of some objects in it, please send it to me, I can probably easily fix it.

This (http://i.imgur.com/aXqPuy8.jpg?1)
I guess it's just that my materials are heavy. Every time I open one in the slate editor to tweak it...it's laggy. In this case it's a very big hdri map (15k wide), and most of my textures are 6k but usually it takes 1-3 secs to load a material, but sometimes (relatively often with this scene) it freezes 3ds max for 10 secs (not responding). Not a huge deal but still. Important to note that it's the first time I have that many materials with that quality.
By the way thanks for the support, guys.
-
i must say, in max2014 material editor is very slow (with corona), specially with big scenes, even little change in material freezes 3dsmax for few seconds ;(
-
You're not alone.
I am a seasoned pro. Working in 3d studio since DOS v.4.
Swapped to Corona few months back, due to its incredibly natural and logical setup, plus great and fast renders. BUT (and it's a BIG one) slate with corona sends my machine (DellT5610) into spasms of perpetually spinning blue wheel and freezing windows. Didnt have that with vray. Not sure what to do as I love the way corona works. (less lack of glare and bloom rendering effects, and camera distortions perhaps)

Same here
But I found out that if you turn of the renderqueue (bottom left in the slate editor) it will speed up a lot.
Only the material previews wont update anymore, so its guessing what the material will do in the render. Or use the interactive render to see what happens.
-
Same here, extremly lagging slate material editor in max 2016 with all service packs...

Have you tried this solution? https://coronarenderer.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/12000011862-material-editor-is-very-slow-freezing-in-corona-1-4

Hey Maru.
I did everything but nothing seems to work, the lag in max is astonishin, it's impossible to work!
I'm desperate, right now I'm upgrading to Windows 10 annyversary update to see if this helps, but I'm in a tight deadline and this is breaking all my deadlines, I have 1.4 hotfix 1 :P
Cheers.

Same here..(( I tried all windows 7 updates and instructions and mat editor it is still very!!! slow. This really makes nervous while working in tough deadline as speed become very essential in 3D world. Hope this issue won't persist in the next version... ((

3d max mat map Browser in last Max version's is completely absolutely terrible slowly after all the "wonderful" and very "convenient"
improvements produced by Autodesk:) for example: loading and caching last material Library opened and don't closed from preview's project or SEVERAL PROJECT'S--- O_O///especially it's "works great" with Office network's:)
The fastest map Browser of 3dmax this old type map Browser from B.C. max:)
So to revert goto:
C:\Users\you\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\20xx – 64bit\enu\plugcfg
and open SME.ini
Change to the following:
ShowMtlBrowser=0
UseOldMtlBrowser=1
and be happy as me:)))

But this has nothing to do with Corona, right? It also happens with any other renderer selected?

Right, this applies only to the 3dmax, and no matter what renderer to use////
With new map Browser from Autodesk, even Vray,ScanLine and other render's materials opened much, much slowly////
your can see that by yourself...In any case, your can always restore all settings back///
