Hi there, i am playing around with some tree/hedge/gras models.
But i dont really get a nice sss-effect on the leaves.
The best result is just a simple fresnel shader, but im not really satisfied...
Can you help me with the settings please?
-
Post a image of your material settings and if possible you illumination and lets see...
-
If your leaves are thin, use translucency, not sss.
-
Unforunately i didnt saved the file. (facepalm)
The leaves were flat polys and i didnt use the SSS shader, just a fresnel at the transparency channel.
Apart from that i just had a diffusemap and a reflectionmap.
-
Flat poly leaves are best rendered using translucency instead.
-
Yes, as i said: i did. :P
Used it with a fresnelshader. Are you just using simple colormode?
-
do not touch transparency/opacity/refraction. Use translucency.

Can you give advice , how you created that grass?
-
Very simple. I made 3 or 4 basic grass blades (some of them were more bent, some of them more twisted, shorter/longer) and used Corona Scatter with slightly randomised rotation and scale. That's all.

Thank you maru. Im a C4D-user, so i dont really understand the material setting 100%.
Level 1 means 100% and 0 = 0% %? So you its 100% reflection?
My C4D material looks like this: (http://abload.de/img/c4dc6sof.jpg)

Sorry but I don't know Corona for C4D and I have problems understanding you. From what I see "level" in C4D is the same as "fraction" in Max and that's all you would need. It's best to do lots of test renders and lots of tweaks until you achieve the result you want.
-
@maru I think he means the values in general not the specific value.
@fLuppster yes, in this case in max 1.0 equals to 100% in C4D.
Cheers!
