Title: HD Cache "debugging"
Post by: cecofuli on 2013-03-21, 18:11:58
Hi,
I don't know if you have the same "perception". But when I change some HD Cache settings, I don't have a "real feedback" on what I do.
I want to explain me better. In VRay, you can see VERY WELL the LC "cells" without the LC interpolation. And, if you change the LC parameters, you can see what are you doing (LC+LC)
Is it possible to have the same "feedback" or not?

We had it before, and imho it was indeed better for testing, but now - when you set HDCache as primary it's the same as pt+HDcache.
So, get's my vote :)

I'd like to have it back, too.

I want it back too, but for some reason, keymaster removed it :/

HD cache is kind of a quantum cache - just observing it changes it. It does not live in the camera space, so it cannot be easily visualized. But you can put DataViz into the scene before rendering (corona helper object) and see the cache points for yourself in the viewport after rendering is done ;)

Ah, ok.. I didn't know. I'll try tomorrow this helper. Thank ;-)

Wow, Keymaster and his magic secrets! :)

There are many strange parameters in this helper
BUG: (there isn't any icon in viewport for this object if the viewport is in Wireframe mode)
But my question is: there is some explanation for all these parameter =)

Dataviz is nearly useless for tweaking something like indirect illumination cache, as a lot more than just a sample distribution needs to be observed (sample color, variance, interpolation, leaks, light bouncing, etc...). This quantum thing does not make sense either...  you can simply enable the mode that changes HD cache ONLY when HDcache is set as primary GI, and revert to correct HDcache as soon as it is not set to primary mode.

Sorry, but there is simply no excuse for not having that option there....
