Title: Dirt and scratches
Post by: Black Sun on 2014-11-21, 18:28:15
What is the correct way to add dirt and scratches to materials?
Do I put them in a specific slot. If not, what Corona Map do I use to create dirt effects?

Thanks.

It depends.
Dirt can be put over diffuse in a mix texture, other people use An AO map as mask, others use multimaterials.
And scratches same as above but its dependent on size of scratches, heavy ones goes better modelled, medium ones use displacement small ones bump or a simple texture... who knows.
There is a post around when some poeple has put some numbers on it. (Use the search)

I am at an insecure stage at the moment. I have spent weeks creating a scene and I don't want to spoil it by not paying closer attention to object details. Therefore I am looking for ways to make
objects look abit more worn since it is an old factory apartment. Bricks, concrete and steel against brand new home appliances.

Can anyone out there show me a pic of the Slate Editor with a dirt maps connected to a diffuse map so I know for sure how to set it up.

Thanks.

Black Sun, I think you should be more specific. What do you mean by "dirt"? To what kind of material do you want to add this dirt (clay, glass, metal)? Do you want this dirt to affect reflectivity, glossiness, bump, or just diffuse colour? Do you want it to be procedural or a bitmap?

Maru, I just want to know how to Jazz things up to make them more real and weathered... lived in. People are producing very good renders with Corona but they all look the same... objects rendered between some wall with a window. I want to avoid perfection.
I want to distress things abit.... but I don't know how. I know what I want in my head but I don't know how to acheive it yet.... when I say dirt I am talking about Vray Dirt effect where edges and crevices can be distressed... aged.

A perfect example is a mountain bike.... mud on the wheels... dirt and scratches on the bike frame.

Thanks, Boris. In the last 6 months I have learnt: Vray for Sketchup.... Vray for 3Ds Max.... hopefully I have found my perfect match.... 3Ds Max + Corona.
It's been a long road though when all you have is YouTube and lots of coffee :)

You are probably referring to ambient occlusion. In Corona you can find it as a CoronaAO map that you can plug wherever you want.

Ahhh... I am glad you told me that. So I just plugin in Corona AO map to the diffuse in slate editor. Thanks.
