Title: Playing with DOF
Post by: RolandB on 2014-11-06, 08:43:22
Hi all
As Pedro said a few days ago about DOF, and its very easy implementation into the workflow, I wanted too to try some renders with it.
I don't want to make a render pass, it never gives the true effect, so here are two images with DOF, each 1h30 for 2000pix (GI/AA 20, MSI 100).

Why did you increase GI/AA and msi?

Hi Maru and hrvojezg00
More AA is better for noise... more MSI is quicker for the rendering time. For me it's a good setting.

more MSI is quicker for the rendering time.
That's actually exactly the opposite of what is happening. Higher msi means brighter samples are allowed (not clamped) and will introduce more noise (fireflies, overall more contrast in noise, etc), thus taking longer to clean up.

And higher GI/AA actually means less AA in the same time. :)
For scenes with DOF you should decrease gi/aa multiplier. Changing MSI from default value also doesn't make much sense.

Well well well... it seems I'm not in a good way... My renders are quick yet, but I didn't try those settings with DOF.
I'm learning guys, and I thank you for your help ! I will post some results ASAP.
