Chaos Corona for 3ds Max => [Max] I need help! => Topic started by: Rimas on 2014-10-08, 10:12:28

Hi guys!
Let me begin by saying that Corona is absolutely incredible and switching from Mental Ray/iray was as painless as it can be! Really pleased with the speed and quality! :)
Anyhow, I have a bit of a booboo, which is why I'm here.
So I'm testing Corona's 360 pano capabilities for our production work and I did a low res (1920 width) test:
http://www.clikcreations.co.uk/p13/P13.html - Everything is fine.
Then I rendered out a large image (10000x5000) of the same scene:
http://www.clikcreations.co.uk/p15/P15.html - I now have glowing corners!
click/drag to move around, double-click to go full-screen
Any idea why that might have happened? I didn't change the settings as far as I remember...
Thanks!

Could it be that you calculated HDCache solution in much lower resolution and reused it in HD version? Just guessing.

Hi! Thanks for the reply!
I always calculate the HD Cache anew for all renderings (doesn't take long at all on dual 10-core Xeon station anyway).
I've attached the HD Cache settings. Maybe too low for 10k by 5k res..?

Your HDCache setting looks fine. Only thing, for 10K resolution i would go with higher Max records [k]. But i'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with your problem.
Another wild guess: do you use round corners feature on walls material - in some situations it can give rather strange results.

Hi! Thanks for the reply again!
Unfortunately not, I only round things out in terms of geometry as shader-based rounding, like you said, sometimes causes problems...
I'll try out the same scene later on after work using a bigger max records value and a lesser interpolation count in the HD cache. I reckon the glowing splotchy corners come from the photons being too big for that resolution and then being interpolated? A wild guess, unless someone comes up with an explanation before that :)
Come on, rendering gurus, I know you have the answer to this! :)
